What happened on Day 1 of NFL Free Agency for the Giants?
Just walk away. Whether you think what you want me, I'd say that it don't seem likely. Oh, no.
Who is Isaiah Likely and what does he bring to the Giants?
Get a hold on your senses. Can't be taking it lightly. Oh, no. Put away your defenses. Likely.
Welcome to Giants Nation. I'm your host, Bobby Skinner, here with my co-host, the football grump. And day one of the NFL free agency is over. The Giants have made some additions. They have made the Titans stronger, I guess. What a day. You know, sign Isaiah Likely, get an all-pro punter, you know, get Jermaine Edmonds, bring back Jermaine Illuminor and lose some guys. Like I said, the Giants got a weapon in Isaiah Likely.
What impact will Tremaine Edmunds have on the Giants' defense?
They lost the entire 2022 draft class to the Tennessee Titans. They brought back their most important free agent on an insanely good deal. They got a good linebacker, but a questionable move. We'll talk about it. Got an all-pro punter and brought back some solid depth pieces. Grump, how are you feeling after day one of Giants free agency?
Tired. We're going late tonight. There's been pretty much nonstop since before the day even started, you know, with the cap ballooning this year. And specifically for you and me, for the Giants, having three major pieces, you know, as... free agents this year that all kind of have a role back with this team. We always knew this this day was going to be hectic and all day and exciting and, you know, nerve wracking and nail biting. And it kind of was all those things, some surprises today. And I don't just mean like surprises like, hooray, we got this guy. I mean, some of the money being flown around, some of it coming way under, some of it coming up higher. Very interesting day today.
Why did the Giants sign Jermaine Eluemunor?
The biggest surprise was the Jermaine Illumina contract, which we're going to talk about that third in order, but it's probably the one I'm most excited to talk about. But let's get into this. We'll start with Isaiah Likely. First, this episode was brought to you by some special people. We've got Kamarian Donor. He's a donor to the Janice Nation show. Colin Melton, which I really hope you're the sibling of Bo and Max, former Rutgers stars. Eli Smith.
How does Jordan Stout's signing affect the Giants' special teams?
Bland last name, great first name. Nicky Karamanlis. He's not Karwomanlis. He's Manlis.
Which Giants players were taken by the Titans during free agency?
Steven S. and Troy A. You know, all we need is one more S, and then we'd have Troy A. We'd have A-S-S. TJ Crieries, he's not Crier-ing today because the Giants made some nice moves. Grump, who are these special people?
These special people went to Patreon.com slash Giants Nation and signed up for one of the two tiers available. They received stickers in the mail from Bobby Skinner. They got entered into monthly free t-shirt raffles and this year also a raffle for Jordan Ronan's book that Bobby has definitely read.
What role will Ar'Darius Washington play for the Giants?
And they get access to hang out during live recordings of episodes just like this one. And they also get access to weekly game tape breakdowns that Bobby Skinner does. Most importantly, they were all glad that they did.
And Patreon, get rid of the free tier. I almost never promote the Patreon on social media.
What are the implications of Isaiah Hodgins and Chris Manhertz re-signing?
I did for this episode. And we have a bunch of people signing up for the free thinking they'll get to watch the episode live. They don't get to, but they get it whenever. Isaiah Likely, the Giants signed the tight end from the Baltimore Ravens. Three-year, $40 million contract. It could get up to 47.5 mil, but usually when they put that in there, there's not really much of a chance of it. 13.3 average annual value. So, you know, pretty high-priced tight end contract. You know, puts them towards the top of the NFL in that. 6'4", 235 pounds, 25 years old. Not as productive as his reputation. You know, last year he had 300 yards on 27 catches and a touchdown. The year before being his best where he had 470 yards, 42 catches and six touchdowns, 400 plus and five touchdowns the year before and then 373 or three.
So he's been like productive throughout his career. And then he's obviously been the tight end, too, to Mark Andrews with the Ravens, right? So his role is going to improve here. This is a good player. He's flexible. There's certain ways you use him, and we're going to get into all of that.
