The one who's new, so maybe that's you, and you don't know where to start around creating this buzz and this interest around your work.
So that's the first artist. And the second one is going to be for the one who's been at this for years. But you may still feel stuck in like a visibility rut. So this podcast is gonna be for you, but I want to warn you, this is not a social media episode, okay? It's not about you know showing you how to do more reels or doing uh carousels or how often you're supposed to, it's not about that at all. It's about building A real presence that will compound for you over time. And by the end, a clear picture of building buzz I'm going to show you what that actually looked like. And I'm going to give you a few things that you can actually start this week. Alright, so let's talk first about why so many artists stay invisible.
And the reason that this usually happens is because we tend to treat visibility as something that we can do passively. Like we don't have to be uh super engaged in making sure that we are seen and that our art is is seen. But If all we do is like make great work and we wait for people to find it, they you're gonna be waiting a really long time. It just doesn't work that way. And you may have heard me um use this example before. Um, but it's like if you have the world's greatest cookie recipe, like it's the best, and you know it's the best. You know it's the best because all of your friends wait all year long for you to make those cookies during the holidays. Like they're waiting, right? They can't wait.
Your friends are waiting, your family's waiting, everybody's waiting for these cookies. And all of them are always saying, you know, you these are the best cookies I've ever had. You could literally start a business doing this. And then finally you're like, you know what?
How does treating visibility as a passive process keep artists hidden?
I'm gonna do that. I am going to create this cookie business because I know I've got a great product, right? And so you you uh you bake and you bake and you do dozens and dozens and dozens of cookies, but then you just wait for people to find you and you don't put yourself out there, you don't you don't do anything with social media, you you don't you know do anything with emails, you don't do anything. And that is a great way of staying invisible. That's a great way of um like it's that a goal without a plan is just a wish. That is just gonna keep you invisible. Okay. Now, another thing that we do as artists that keep us less visible than we really need to be is we tro tre. We treat social media like it's um like it's more optional than in anything else, like it could be a game or it's like it's not that important.
