As you may have guessed, the topic is what I wish every artist knew before investing in their business. So this is for you if you've ever looked at Studio Elite. This is for you if you've ever just even considered paying more for better quality paint. Canvases, you know, supplies, anything like that. It's also for you if you're wondering, should I invest in getting a studio outside of my home or really any investment in your art business and you've got that thought. that you're just like not quite ready. So most artists think that the key to a real business is all of the tactical things, you know, like knowing how to apply to art fairs and how to build an email list, how often to send those out, how to show up on social media.
And I mean, I'm telling you for sure, all of those things matter, but you're not addressing the core foundational thing that is underneath all of that. And that is usually fear. And the thing is, is that when we don't address mindset, things like that, none of the other things move. They will stay stagnant and they will stay stalled. So I have a bit of a story about this for myself. You know, it reminds me that this mindset thing is not like a nice to have strategy. It is literally what everything is built on. And for me, what happened, and gosh, this was years ago, but I had just participated in my very first art fair, right? It wasn't anything fancy. It was, you know, I was just kind of getting my legs underneath me.
I didn't really know what I was doing, but I participated in this art fair and I actually sold a couple of pieces and I had a friend of mine come and she was helping me with, you know, taking everything down and then we were riding in the van together back to the town that I lived in. And as we were driving, she started saying things, you know, okay, now what you need, like, you need to apply to this art fair. You need to play, apply to this exhibition and now, you know, galleries. And, and so she was coming at this from a place of, of, Also having a bit of expertise, meaning that she had been to art school. She had gone to the University of Texas. She had a BFA. Like, she was legit in my mind. And...
As she continued to really, she was just trying to be very encouraging. But as she continued to say, now you need to do this and now that and, you know, all of that, what I could feel was like this lump in my throat forming. and as she continued you know my eyes started to well up with tears and she looked over at me and and she said are you okay and I I answered her I said you don't understand I'm not like you I didn't go to art school I don't even know what I'm doing and
