What is the “Great AI Divide” and why do some leaders tinker while others resist?
All right, what's happening everyone? Welcome back to another fun filled session of HR Heretics. It's Friday, right? Boys, it's Friday. Um, I can't believe it. We have Brian Power back on the show, everyone. joining us today. Um we had dinner a few weeks ago, Brian, and Brian and I sat next to each other. Thank you, Nolan, for making that happen. And we were talking about AI. We were talking about You know, all the fanfare and all the all the stuff out there around it, the reality of how you actually do this day to day and a lot of people we've been talking to recently, Nolan, and I've been personally talking to, high level, right, people officers, uh operators, a lot of them have been saying, I actually don't do anything with AI during the day because I don't have time.
I am actually building stuff It's a distraction, it takes time away from that. And I've heard that a lot, and Brian at dinner was like, I'm the opposite. I literally just tinker most of the day. I carve out time for it. I think that we own this strategy, not just for ourselves, for the company. And I was like, holy shit, that is a huge chasm. between what I've been hearing and what you're saying and I wanna I wanna understand what that looks like and feels like. With you, day to day. And then we're gonna end with our favorite corporate lingo, which is the new fun-filled rapid fire round I put in in here, which is the worst. Company phrases you're hearing out in the wild. We all hear 'em, we all say them.
I'm guilty. And we're gonna make fun of some of them. So let's kick off Brian. So tell us about What you're doing at next door with AI, how you think about it, you know, in general and we'll jump in here with some some uh conversation.
Sounds great. Well first, thanks for having me back. Repeat guest, I feel honored. I'm a huge fan of the franchise. If there's merch, I wanna buy it. I mentioned to you all I I consume this on my commute in and You know, I've basically demanded you let me back in 'cause I've I've been talking to you in my car and you can't hear me. So it's great we can all get get together live on this.
No, you're not the first person that's told us like I yell at you in my car. What what is that? What do you yell at That's the
right emotion. That's that's the right emotion we want. Yeah, is what
Nolan say make you scream? Like y what what do you what do you
So both of you are offenders. I think the brand you've developed is excellent. You you you come with Real opinions. on things that are that are happening. And and sometimes my yells are absolutely this is so right. Why don't more people say this? And sometimes um I wanna be like, You're crazy. There's no way. You're the dumbest fucking
people
on
planet
Earth. Nolan and Kelly. I think that's why I love this podcast and I I think You know, I think other people do too, 'cause so so the I think it's great the universe of people focused podcasts has grown so much since COVID and I think the communities sharing and learning is all is all good, but um I like uh you're a little more unvarnished and that's that's my jam. I really appreciate it. So uh keep it up.
I think the last I was gonna say
I think the last time that I was on we talked a little bit about AI. This was m months ago, you know, and I think lots is lots really happened with AI and AI in the workplace. And um so I think, you know, outside and next door, I'm certainly feeling like resistance. There there's a lot of people who are like, This thing didn't out of the box make us all superhuman, so false advertising. Yeah. Or to your point, Kelly, people like, Okay, I gotta try this and then it doesn't There's all these things that go wrong, it doesn't work, and then you're like, Okay, now I'm behind. Now I gotta go do the stuff I was supposed to do today and and I lost an hour, so I can't do that again. And th th that overhead of
Having to learn. I I think in general people Or saying um You know, everyone's talking about AI bubble. Every frickin' company is now selling AI. Their product is now AI. So it's just it's just it's bubbly.
