What does “What are you waiting for?” mean for Luke and how does it shape his approach to risk?
Before we dive into this week's episode, I'm wondering, how's parenting going for you at the moment? Do you feel like you've got it all handled? Or do you find yourself yelling at the smallest things or just feeling overwhelmed most of the time? If you're looking for some extra support, my 8-week parenting immersion is kicking off soon. It starts on October 19th. And over the eight weeks, we work through themes like trust, imprints, feelings, anger, play, boundaries, self-care, healing, repair. And we look at the patterns you picked up long before you became a parent and how they're actually showing up in your parenting right now. You'll walk away with real tools for the tricky moments, ways to build genuine cooperation with your kids and a much better understanding of your own reactions.
So you can respond instead of react, even on the hard days. This course is all online. There's recordings available. So if you can't join live, you can always catch up. There's workbooks, relaxations and the support of community. This is the only round I'm running this year, so if you'd like to join the waitlist or sign up now, go and visit laylestone.com.au forward slash immersions. Okay, now on to this week's episode. Ah, the human experience, with our flaws, our passions, our triggers, our inspirations and our imprints. If we could see behind everyone's story, then perhaps what we would have is deep compassion. In this podcast, I get the chance to explore these stories from some truly fascinating people in some honest and heartwarming conversations.
And best of all, I get to share these discussions with you. I'm Lael Stone, and this is Humans Being.
Welcome to Humans Being. I'm Lael Stone. It's lovely to have you here. My humanness this week is all about taking risks. And what's going on in my world at the moment is these, these invitations to kind of step out of my comfort zone, to do stuff that perhaps is a little bit out of my wheelhouse and is going to invite me to kind of stretch a bit. And I'm not afraid of taking risks. Like I feel like most of my life I have led with courage. I often have a bit of a theory of, you know, I don't know how it's going to work, but I'll figure it out. And there's people who are way smarter than me who do know how to do it. So I'll always just kind of call on them. But it really got me thinking this week about this resistance or this place that we often stand in when it comes to taking a big risk.
because of course we want guarantees that it's going to work and of course we kind of want guarantees of safety and we're all going to be fine and no one's going to laugh at us. But there's something I think as I'm sitting looking at these opportunities in front of me now, where I am weighing up, you know, do I want to do this at this stage of my life? But actually the voice in my head that's the loudest is, what are you waiting for? Because we often, I think, hold back thinking, you know, there's got to be the right timing or, you know, I want to know that it's right. But I've kind of, the older I get, come to live by this fact that nothing is wasted. No matter what happens, even if it fails, I will have learned something.
And why not just jump in? Because, you know, there isn't often a safety net. And, you know, I really do stand by the fact that we learn no matter what we do. But the thing that is the loudest in my head at the moment is what are we waiting for? So for any of you listening right now, and if you're sitting on the fence with something, my little nudge is going to be this. What are you waiting for? What permission are you waiting for to do something, to write the book, to write you know, sing the song to, you know, change jobs, whatever it is, what are you waiting for? Let's go. It's time. That's where I've got to the point now. I don't care anymore. I'm a menopausal woman. I'm like taking no shit. So here we go.
Let's go. We're on. All right. So my guest today is, I am sure not a stranger to taking risks and stepping out of his comfort zone. I am so excited to have with me the amazing Luke Cook.
