This is an Irish Independent Podcast. Now, welcome everyone. It's July. It's Friday. World Cup's on. We're happy. Ronan Mullan, hello. Hi, Joe. And a warm welcome back. It's been a while. Sarah Mulcairns.
Sarah Mulkerrins 0:45
Hello. Lovely to be back.
Dave Hanratty 0:47
How are things?

What are the highlights of Jurgen Klopp's return to football?

Sarah Mulkerrins 0:49
All good. All good. Yeah, a very chilled out June, which was really nice.
Dave Hanratty 0:53
You did nothing.
Sarah Mulkerrins 0:53
For once. Still did a little bit of work, but I had a lot of time off, which was much needed. And yeah, ready to go. So I watched the World Cup from the couch like everybody else, which was great.
Dave Hanratty 1:02
Nice. Did you go on holidays?
No.
Sarah Mulkerrins 1:04
No, I didn't. Lots of people were asking me that. And I was allergic to the thought of going near an airport or a train station. I do so much traveling.

How did the football semi-finals sell out so quickly?

Sarah Mulkerrins 1:13
I was just like, no, I just want to be. I just want to potter. I just want to. Yeah. So I was like, I'm not going anywhere. And yeah, I feel good in that decision at the end of it.
Dave Hanratty 1:23
Did you get bored?
Sarah Mulkerrins 1:24
Yeah. Right at the end. And I was like, oh, it's time. That's nice. So I was like, that's good. You know, it was I was getting a bit antsy to kind of, you know.
Dave Hanratty 1:31
So what would you do on an average day? Just putter around Manchester?

What is the significance of an Italian's obsession with Ireland?

Sarah Mulkerrins 1:35
Yeah, wake up, go to the gym, you know. I got into Pilates actually over the last month. A few injuries from running and that that aren't going away because I don't give them any sort of treatment, you know. So a new Pilates place opened up and I said, oh, I'm going to do this. This will cure me. And actually, it's really good. I believe in the hype.
Dave Hanratty 1:53
Is this the reformer one you do on the springs?
Sarah Mulkerrins 1:55
So I did five mass sessions first because I was very worried about myself going straight into reformers. I was like, I'm going to injure myself here with the springs and the whole lot. And then at the start of this week, I progressed up to the reformer, did that for the first time. And that was really good for my specific injury. I've got like kind of plantar fasciitis, I don't know how you pronounce it. Yeah. And a little bit on my ankle and kind of glutes.

What challenges did hurling face during the summer?

Sarah Mulkerrins 2:18
And I could just feel everything. I was like... Oh, that's all the weakness.
Dave Hanratty 2:21
We were sitting down all day. We all have this, like our glutes, our hip flexors, all of that stuff.
Sarah Mulkerrins 2:26
Exactly. Just totally not.
Ronan Mullen 2:27
We were talking about Tom Brady's methods to make himself more flexible. We got a few raps in the knuckles for broadcasting this to the masses. I think a few doctors got in touch and were like, that's not...
Dave Hanratty 2:38
No, we just have a listen to what he said. We didn't detail it. But his medical guy is obviously, you know, there's some question marks.
Ronan Mullen 2:44
But it was well chronicled at the time. Alex Guerrero is your man's name.

How did Pilates originate and what is its impact?

Ronan Mullen 2:47
Bill Belichick cutting on there pretty early. He's like, I don't want this guy infusing all my professional medics with this stuff. You, I presume, are not a Pilates guy.
Dave Hanratty 2:54
Not really, no. You know the story of the springs and the reformer aspect? I'm familiar with reformer Pilates, yeah. But you know the story of how it started? No. A guy called Joseph Pallades. Joseph Pallades, back in the day, fitness guy. World War II happens and his job is looking after injured soldiers. And he thinks to himself, well, exercise is really important. And so what can I do for these incapacitated injured soldiers in the bed? The bed springs, they might be useful in terms of some kind of resistance work. The silliness that you see now with the springs, which obviously looks a bit, you know, it looks notion-y.

What are the latest developments in GAA and its international presence?

Dave Hanratty 3:31
there was a great practical beginning.
Ronan Mullen 3:33
That's some good information.
Will Slattery 3:35
Yeah.
Ronan Mullen 3:35
Off the top of the dome.
Will Slattery 3:36
Yeah.
Ronan Mullen 3:36
It is amazing.
Will Slattery 3:37
It is.
Ronan Mullen 3:37
That's what bits and bobs is all about.
Will Slattery 3:39
Yeah.
Dave Hanratty 3:39
I heard that when I was doing it. I was like, that is just so interesting.
