This does not. But we felt the movie cinema extravaganza of the summer needed our take. So without further ado, we are discussing Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey.

Yes, indeed. Gents, welcome. Well, we should just start firstly on like what a big event this has been. Not since Barbenheimer, I guess, Christopher Nolan involved in Oppenheimer. To the fore, like I hadn't really noticed, I've been looking at the movie posters, but, you know, a lot of them are simply the Odyssey, his name. No photos of Matt Damon or any of the other superstars in this. Christopher Nolan has ascended to a certain stature whereby people go to the movie for the director. And the horse is on the poster. So the horse is the star of the show. And even like, yeah, this is one of the tricky ones because you're not sure where to start. But when the film starts, how many of you were jarred by the fact that the very, very first face you see on screen in this giant ensemble is Travis Scott?
The rapper extraordinaire. That was unexpected, right?
Not to go full that Sky News report from last week about the longest running number one in UK chart history being Reign Me In by Sam Fender and Olivia Deen, subject to several quote tweets saying, I've never heard this song. I've never heard of either of these people. My only previous interaction with Travis Scott was in WWE. So it was a bit jarring to see him.
Blank look on my face was obviously I have no idea who you're talking about. So fair enough. Christopher Nolan reckons he plays a bard in this and he's the guy. He's telling the whole story. A face, a fleet, a wife, a war. And Nolan's kind of rationale is that, well, rappers are the modern day bards, which, you know, I think is just kind of borderline pretentious slash precious. And I enjoy it. He doesn't have a lot to do, but he does it well. He is an orator. Yeah, that's fair enough. to deal with the question that was asked.
Thank you. Got us back on track here. Ireland in particular, it's funny, I think we were the highest grossing country per capita for the Odyssey over week one. It sounded to Spielberg levels of kind of auteurism in terms of it's just a name alone. But I didn't live through that Spielberg era of all his big movies. So I have nothing to compare it to. But we discussed this day of ourselves on your podcast. But he's the one director I'd say that I went there on the first day for The Odyssey. I was there first day for Oppenheimer, the first day for Tenet during COVID. It's the only director I think that I would do that for. Even though this movie, as we'll touch on, I'm sure, has the most star-studded cast I've probably ever seen.
Even people with a bit part are like these mega famous people. He still commands the ultimate attention. And it's the fact that he's directing it that I think has... And that how good he is at what he does that have generated this outrageous groundswell. When I heard that he was following a Wappenheimer with this... Yeah. I was very sceptical about two things. One, whether he could pull off a good movie, but two, whether I would actually be interested in it, even if he did.
