Hello, I'm Ciarán Hancock. Welcome to Inside Business. This week, we're coming to you from the head office of EY, one of the country's biggest professional services firms, and also the sponsor of this podcast. Now, we've put together a small panel of business leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities they're facing Tommy Kearns is chief executive and co-founder of Irish technology company Extreme Push and is a finalist in the established category of EY Entrepreneur of the Year. And Dr. Harriet Tracy is founder and chief executive of Beyond BMI, a health tech company offering solutions for weight loss and obesity. And she's a finalist in the emerging category of the same awards. And Roger Wallace is an EY partner and head of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year program.
You're all very welcome. Now, I've asked our two entrepreneurs to kick us off by giving us each a 60-second or so elevator pitch to tell us a little bit about their businesses and themselves. And I'm going to ask Tommy Kearns to go first.
I'm the CEO and co-founder of Extreme Push. We're an omni-channel customer engagement platform targeted at highly regulated businesses around the world. We've been going about 11 years and basically what we do is we help our customers, our partners, which are banks, insurance companies, media companies, sports betting and iGaming companies, understand their end consumers and customers and players, and then automate intelligent messaging across all the digital channels. And what we basically help them do is activate, retain and grow their customer base, help them with compliance, help them with suppression and all that kind of thing to the lifecycle comms for the end customer. And basically the end outcome is better experiences for the end customers
and to grow the revenue base and retain the revenue base.
Yeah, and I should say that the Irish Times is a customer of Extreme Push.
That's correct. You send out push notes. A long-term customer, which is brilliant.
For those of you who are subscribers, and if you're not a subscriber, you should definitely subscribe right now, irishtimes.com. We'll have all the details for you, but any push notes you get from the Irish Times come from Extreme Push. And also, if you sign up to any of our many newsletters, and there'll also be a channel for that as well. Dr. Harriet Tracy, over to you.
Thanks for the intro, Ciarán. So Beyond BMI is an online, medically-led weight management and obesity clinic. And in fact, we were probably the first to do it in Ireland over four years ago. So what we do, I suppose, unlike your regular GP who's probably struggling with, you know, high patient loads and a variety of different things, we offer kind of that full wraparound service to help people who are living with a disease of obesity. So it's giving them access to doctors, dieticians, coaches, a community, and all of this is delivered via an online service. subscriptions. So you're really getting that full wraparound service. So we've served thousands of patients to date. The big, big thing for us is health gains.
So it's really not just about the number on the scale. It's more about seeing people return to professional sport because they haven't been able to because of back pain affected by weight, seeing people get pregnant and go on to have children who maybe would have been struggling. So the impact we're having, I think, is probably something that we're really proud of.
Yeah, weight loss is a really hot, hot area at the moment, isn't it? You know, we hear about all of these treatments, Wegovi, Ozempic and so forth, most of them injectable, but they're coming in tablet form, right? Maybe there are some in tablet form already. So how does beyond BMI, how is it different from what's available, let's say, through your GP?
What obesity is, is it's a long-term chronic relapsing remission disease, which means there is no quick fix, right? So, you know, people have been put on diets. They've been told eat less, move more. They've been stuck on a 12-week program.
