Far Down Beauties with Jesse Pierce and Kirsten Kroll. Two hockey minds trapped in bodies that can't skate. They may have never laced them up, but they'll break it all down with sharp takes and plenty of laughs. This is Hockey Talk, the beauty's way.
Hello, good morning, happy Monday, everybody. Bardown Beauty's Jessie Pierce, Kirsten Kroll. Two more games, Kirsten, before the Olympic break. We're almost there. You can feel it. You can taste it.
Almost there. One more game tonight on this Monday morning, but early one at that. We were due for an early puck drop finally.
I'll take a 6.30. Cole Caulfield in town for the final home game before the break at Nashville on Tuesday. Kirsten, there's always been a lot of rumblings. Bill Guerin has talked about it at length about Cole Caulfield. Should he make this play? He obviously was the primary snub, it feels. 32 goals right now for Cole Caulfield, third in the NHL, 57 points. He's got 11 goals in his past 10 games. Lane Hudson, another player on the Montreal Canadiens that...
Who are the Minnesota Wild's most important players right now?
arguably could have been looked at for Team USA. I'm standing by it. I'm fine with it. I'm okay with Billy saying, nah, not this time. But it is hard to see Cole Caulfield score night in and night out and say, why is he not wearing the USA jersey in Milan?
Yes, I agree. But also just kind of knowing Bill Guerin's style, he loves his guys of size. And Cole Caulfield, as great of a player he is, he doesn't necessarily fit that role.
Short kings. Short king. That's all he is. And it doesn't seem to bother Cole. I wanted to talk to Cole at Morning Skate today, but they're not having availability. And I'm not going down on the Four Seasons to find out, but I am sure he's kind of exhausted by it. And again, reiterate... it's specific players that you need for this team. I watched the 1980 miracle documentary on Netflix this weekend, 10 out of 10, by the way, you guys already know that I'm obsessed with that movie, but that documentary was so good, but it just reiterated like these guys weren't all superstars. You're not going to win gold that way.
Did you learn any new quotes from the documentary?
I quoted the entire Miracle movie throughout the documentary and was like, oh, that's where this line would come into play. The best thing about the doc, actually, I'm going to tell you to watch it, but I know you won't watch it.
That's not true. I have Netflix.
Okay, so there we go. We're going to watch the documentary. You're going to check it out. You're going to learn something. But the cool thing was the difference that separates this from other documentaries or other uh stories in general about the miracle on ice which again there's a little bit of exhaustion there like i need another gold medal but even when or if the us wins another gold it'll never be the same as what that 1980 team did and what they represented beyond the olympics all of that but it was really cool because there were different behind the scenes footage of their training, there was, you know, you were reminded that they were just a bunch of college kids. Like they were drunk at their press conference after they won the gold medal and just said some very off cuff things.
And it was just kind of funny. Like it was, it was a little unique peak that you didn't really get to witness obviously in the movie or in other news stories about them. It's I liked it. I dug it. I got into it.
It's kind of crazy that they were able to dig up all of this old footage that most people had never seen before.
Yeah, exactly. Right.
