What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Generate is supporting my vision to improve the financial literacy of 100,000 Kiwis by sponsoring Keep the Change. Cheers Generate. Head to generatekiwisaver.co.nz forward slash change to find out more. Every one of my product businesses, I've always reached a million within about six months. It's never taken me longer than that. I don't think people realize a product that's like $5 sells for like $100. The margin is like in the marketing and the branding. My clients sell the most random products, like anything. We can sell almost anything. Do you think that Kiwis are sort of having their eyes open that actually this is probably more possible than they realise? Buildings down, constructions down, maybe hospitalities down.
E-commerce is one of the ones with a low amount of risk and can start with pretty limited capital. Do you get people saying, this is crap, I haven't learnt anything, I want my money back? No, it's not going to work for every single person.
How did Iyia Liu first achieve rapid million‑dollar product launches?
The ones that just have already taken so much action, they are the ones that get the best results. I'll get DMs like, yeah, I got one the other day. I'd done $1.3 million in 18 months. You've changed my family's life. That is really cool. If you don't believe you can do it, you won't be able to do it. There's a business owner listening to this and they need some sales in the next 30 days, right? What things would you advise them to do? Number one, get your website checked, just making sure it's optimized for conversion. There's a specific setup that if it's not set up right, it doesn't matter how much advertising you do, you're not going to convert people. After that, A year ago we checked in with Ea from Make It Happen and it is time to do it again because I think the goals have expanded, the product range has expanded and it seems that this woman never slows down.
So good to see you. Thanks for having me back. No problem. What have you been up to in the last year? Let's start there and then we'll dive into some of those things. Okay. The last year, what has happened? I think since I saw you, I got married. Awesome. I'm pretty sure. Yeah, I did. And you talked quite openly about that and the price and things like that on socials, right? Yeah. Yeah. How did that go? Oh, it was so funny because I remember when we were wedding planning, I was like getting some quotes from friends and I was like, no, that is crazy. I would never spend that amount. I had one friend, she sent me her spreadsheet from Mudbroke in Waiheke and I was like 120 grand. Absolutely not. And then mine ended up being the same.
120k. There was no way to cut back I literally ended up towards the end there was like decorations and things I was like no we're culling this we're culling that like this is getting out of control but it's really hard to control that costing everything just adds up do you think there's a little bit of that wedding tax people talk about where margins are sort of pushed up a little bit because they know okay might you start to spend on the big things like catering and venues okay what's another grand here two grand there or the cake or whatever Yeah, for sure. And why is the markup like 10 times just because you've said wedding? Like my makeup was like 600 bucks. I'm pretty sure I could get this done for like 100 usually.
There was, because I had my wedding in Bali, there was a lady, I went on her website and I hired her to come and do social content. She charged, let's say, a thousand New Zealand dollars. I think it was like 970. I get there. She's got a local Indonesian person that their hourly pay is like $2 an hour. I was like, I've paid this woman $1,000, expecting her to come. She's hired someone local, probably paying them very little. She's pocketed like 800 bucks from this. Yeah. So it's crazy. Wedding, yeah, absolutely. Everything's expensive for a wedding. Far out. Okay, so we get through a wedding. Well done. Congratulations.
