Welcome back. You are listening to another episode of keep the change dot co dot nz Money Mail. I hope that you are keeping well and building some wealth as we head into the back half of two thousand and twenty six. Wealth could be all sorts, it could be numbers on a spreadsheet, it could just be how you feel about your life or how you feel about yourself when you look in the mirror. Hey, it's all wealth, baby. It's all hey, mate, just bring the energy down a bit. Okay. Sorry, had it had had a coffee before hitting record. I've seen something interesting start to pop up and I've been a little bit fascinated about this conversation for some time and then seen conflicting information about it. And I thought we could have some fun with it.

And then maybe a reminder and a podcast if you didn't listen to it to go back and listen to because I was analysing some data from the first half of 2026 for Keep the Change. and noticed a bit of a theme and that you buggers are really keen on understanding about building wealth, uh which is which is great to see. I, you know, have been doing this for a number of years now and You know, a lot of you would have graduated past stacking the emergency fund, paying off the credit card, all those sorts of things. And some people haven't as well. And there's it doesn't matter like where you're at. It's about making progress on your journey. Uh, but it seems to be a consistent thing that some of the top performing stuff is is you guys looking for content around building wealth.
Sam Perry 1:55
And so I've got a good potty here with some of the basics in it. Uh but I am keen to find more people who have stories of them building wealth and the ways that they've done it so that you can think about uh how you may be able to mirror some of those lessons or add them into your life or think about things differently because there is no singular way to do it. But I was reflecting on a top performing podcast from earlier in the year and that was around uh building wealth. And then I saw this comment and I thought, No, no, it's only August and you're saying this. And it was basically I'll wait until after the election. My oh, here we go. Here we go. What? To build wealth. You're gonna wait till after the election.
Sam Perry 2:45
Okay. And there's probably quite a constant narrative as we get closer to elections in New Zealand that the economy slows down, right? And that things stop moving and people stop making decisions. And then I saw a couple of extra comments from clients of mine in the SME space. One forwarded me an email saying, Hey, just thought you might be interested in this. It's someone in the solar space and their customer is going, I'm just gonna wait till after the election to see what the rules end up being or the incentives from the different parties. You think if you want solar, you want solar, you've made sense of it already. Seriously, you're gonna wait till November or December to see. Like, is the change gonna be that different?
Sam Perry 3:36
But I guess it does highlight that people will sit on their hands like waiting to see what things change, what incentives happen. And it it can, to a degree, you would think, slow down an economy. Now back to this wealth building podcast with James Blair, and it's about fifty-five minutes. And if I was trying to boil it down to to one thing. He was trying to say that actually the biggest risk that they see of people not building wealth Is people standing still? Doing sweet if A. That's the biggest financial risk for a lot of us. We're not making a decision. You know, and it's not it's not actually about making a mistake and oh my gosh, all this catastrophic shit happened.
