Welcome everybody to another sort of Keeping Cross and Fantasy Hacker Podcast, the longest-running fantasy hockey podcast in the world, hosted by two guys who are gonna maybe not dominate this podcast in terms of actual good takes, but expected good takes are gonna go through the roof. I'm your host, Elon Dubrowski. And with me, to break down, I guess we'll talk about what happened this morning in the Olympics, and then all the news and notes from the NHL since our last show. Which is like no games, but a lot of practices and things like that from the players who weren't in the Olympics. I'm your host, Dylan Debrowski, with me to go through it all. It's the Fancy Hockey Robot, the Pooh Bob Prognostication, the IPP MVP himself.
Brian Calm. Brian, how's it going?
Hey, I'm uh I'm good. We we speak to you from a nation in morning. It's uh tough morning for a lot of Canadians. R early morning. Uh, you know, games started. Oh I mean, we share time zones with Americans as well. So a lot of us were up early uh to catch the game this morning. A lot of us were already up because our biological clocks or children do that to us as well. Uh but yeah, watched it. Uh, enjoyed it. It was a really entertaining hockey game. And uh I don't you do you have a do you have a take or a thought? Is there something you'd like to say before I I say any like it was interesting to uh you go first.
No, I mean, I don't know what to say. Like it it was like you say, it was a lot of fun. I went with a whole bunch of friends, like kid friends. Like, how do you say this? My kids have friends, and now I'm friends with their parents because the kids are friends. We all went to a bar with all the kids and it was like a lot of fun and they were running around, we're watching the game. At one point I got nervous because I told Noah that like the best part about going to a bar to watch a hockey game is when the team scores, you all high five each other, and it's so fun. And then we're like in the second period. When are we gonna do our high five? But then finally Makar scored that goal. We had a blast. Honestly, she didn't even care about the end result.
By the end, I think she was ready to go home anyway. So uh she th the kids didn't care at all. The adults were a little bit sad. Uh but as far as yeah, so it was a really fun game, really exciting. So many moments of like, oh come on, McKinnon missing the net. How'd you miss that net? breakaway from McDavid, breakaway from Celebrini. Come on, bury that. But at the same time, like I kind of feel similar to how I felt when the Blue Jays lost in the World Series, when it was like so close and like one little inch, you know, and they would have won the game in so many ways. Where it's like, I had so much fun. throughout these last three Olympic Games. Like all three games were closer than we expected them to be.
Well, specifically like Czechia and Finland, right? Like was supposed to be Canada should have like dominated those games according to the odds or whatever. Uh but it was like a blast watching through. And at the end of the day, like, tell me I don't know if this is gonna get people to not like me. Like I don't care. You know, it's like Canada didn't win the gold medal. Like it doesn't really change my life that much. You know, I I enjoyed cheering for them. It's kind of like when the Leafs make the playoffs and I live in Toronto. I'm not like super passionate about the Leafs necessarily, but I'm I'm passionate about going out, having fun, watching good games. Like I want the Leafs to advance that the fun could continue and we could have more plans to go to the bars and watch games.
And here this went as far as it can go. The Blue Jays went as far as it can possibly go. It would have been great if they won. It would have been a big celebration. But the next day You kind of move on. So I don't know. I know a lot of people have a lot of big feelings about this, and I definitely sympathize.
