What is the opening preview for the March Madness fantasy playoffs?
What's up champs, and welcome to another episode of the Short Shifts Fantasy Hockey Podcast, brought to you by Keeping Carlson. I'm your host, Jeremy Rossillo. bringing you a solo show tonight. It's the March Madness that is fantasy hockey playoffs. That's definitely the only type of March Madness going on right now, right? I should trademark that. Jokes aside, we're more than halfway through the fantasy quarterfinals, so I hope you're winning your matchup, or even better, have a bye and are prepping for the semis. Let's get right to the news though. Some big injury news. Kirill Kaprizov is day-to-day with a lower body injury. This is an addition to Joel Erickson X injury that was announced on Tuesday.
I forget if that made it into Lewis's show. It certainly leaves the lines thin in Minnesota, and it's not good for fantasy managers of any Minnesota wild player. The team will definitely be scoring less if Kaprizov misses any time. They lost two to one to Chicago today. And the lines they rolled were Boldy Eurov and Bobby Brink, who just made it back from injury. Followed by Terasenko, Hartman, and Zuccarello. The first power play unit was Boldy, Hartman, Terasenko, and Zuccarello. Maybe there's some streamer value in there. I know Terasanko has been fantastic when he's gotten power play one time this year. But I'm gonna mention this now, and I'm gonna mention it a bunch more times this episode. Next week's schedule sucks.
There isn't a ton of value to mine on the wire because 30 teams play Tuesday, 26 teams play Thursday, and 30 teams play Saturday. So your teams to stream from are almost non existent. Get those off night teams like the Rangers and Buffalo. I will say that again, the Rangers and Buffalo, they will be worth their weight in gold next week if you have time to plan ahead. So also benefit the top heavy teams with lots of streamer slots to play around, as opposed to balanced teams that will have difficult lineup decisions to make, and it'll hurt managers who run just 3D or one goalie. But I digress. This is not matchup maximizer. I should get back to the injury news.
Which recent injuries should fantasy managers watch for before the semifinals?
The other injury that was announced today was UC Saros. He's also day-to-day But Eustace Oninen got the start against Seattle, and Matt Murray the Younger got called up to back up. It's unsure how long Saros will be out, but keep your eye on his status and maybe add Eustaan in if you need the goalie starts. He pitched a good one against the Lowly Kraken today with a three to one victory. I've also received some breaking news as I'm recording this at eleven thirty Eastern tonight, don't ask. Tyler Tefoli will not return tonight for San Jose. William Eklund has replaced Tefoli on Power Play One. That could give some additional value to Eklund going forward, but we'll know more about Tefoli's injury and the situation with the lines in the coming days.
Keep in mind that Igor Chernisov will likely be back from what looked like a pretty nasty concussion soon, so that could play even more difficulty on the power play lines. On the brighter side, we saw two studs return today in Sidney Crosby and Adrian Kempe. Crosby especially seems to have beaten the timeline that was given coming out of the Olympics, so it's a pleasant surprise for Penguins fans and fantasy managers. He of course jumped right back up between Raquel and Rust and onto the top power play unit. Kempe's lines for the ten pm start had him playing with Panarin and Kopotar. I don't think they have a point yet, but I haven't actually checked recently. This makes Copitar an interesting value prop for the next few weeks, if you have the room in your lineup, like I mentioned before.
He's older and has slowed down, but now he's playing with two very good players. Maybe he'll turn back the clock and start putting up more points. Another player who should be on your cut radar if you haven't already is Mason McTavish. He got healthy scratched again today, making it two games in a row, after going pointless in five. He also saw his ice time dip down to the twelve minute range.
