How did Perk and Coach Joe prepare for the Worlds competition?
Alright, we're live. Perk. Joe. Um I mean none of us are surprised over here right now, but Call it the way it is. Um Another win. W w let's walk through prep, the day, etcetera, how you feel, what's next. But uh how was prep?
Um, I mean, I feel like prep is pretty good. Um, I feel like prep was what we needed. We don't go into competitions and say, Let's just take what we need to win. That's never the vibe. Me and Joe always say that from the beginning. Um, but I felt really good. Um nine, ten and a half. I'm pretty sure that's what I hid in training for about like my like biggest block leading into the comp. Uh felt really good. Um I'll talk about it later, but do I feel like I could have achieved it today? Maybe, but just circumstances on the day, honestly. So uh how you did nine, ten and a half leading into this? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
With a squat triple.
Yeah, with a squat triple. Holy shit. And your what was your body weight? Um, I wanna say around ninety six, ninety five, ninety six.
Your your body weight?
Yeah. Ninety six seventy f seventy five, seventy six. My bad. Sorry. It's late. It's late, bro. It's late.
Honestly I thought I I I'm like, wow, I I need sleep or something like that.
That's a remarkable cut. But um no shit, so you were not far off aw like at all. No, no, no.
Yeah.
Wow, so in no nagging injuries, a hundred percent walking into the day. Oh Yeah.
Um so I I mean I wouldn't call it an injury. I would call it like a scare. Yeah, like a scare a tweak. But like on my second to last secondary deadlift day, um I pull I do 270 for like three singles. Oh three yeah, three singles. And after I got done with the third one, I kinda like tweaked my like lower backs. slash tailbone and I kinda like had pain doing anything like and it went around my glutes, like outside of my glutes. Um and when that happened I was like That's not good. Um, but I mean I will say on the day I do think it felt a lot better than it did in the moment when it happened. Um and like I said, it was like this is like a week and a half ago, right? And I was like, ooh, what do we think is gonna happen?
Like Joe was actually there for the session as well because he was in Austin.
Clearly I'm a bad luck charmer.
But um yeah, that that was the only thing going into it. I think I wanna say I was probably like I wanna say seventy five to eighty percent.
Really?
Yeah. That was it? Yeah.
So this I mean freaking uh Taylor was saying like he felt amazing leading into PA Nats and like essentially the week of something similar, tweak, oh what the shit is that? Now Taylor's like ten years older, but still had to end up pulling out. That's kinda scary. Yeah. No, yeah, it was I know he was terrified, bro.
He always gets nervous. Oh
It's my job, right? Like I I have to I have to think really hard about okay, how do I get around this kind of stuff? Like, you know, you usually anticipate it to be super smooth with him and so when they throw us a curveball it's just like oh Yeah.
Were you thinking because um Balthazar, who's quite a bit below, but if he had done around eight thirty ish, were you thinking we got eight thirty ish even very badly thorn in the side, saddled a little I mean, yeah, even though it happened, I told you I'll keep everything the same.
Yeah. Um we we didn't change any plans 'cause I mean, by the time I wanna say like week of. Yeah, we were just like bro, we're like we can we have enough 'cause we knew eight ninety one is like the floor anyway. We wanted to match the world record like we did like last year, so it was just it was just about actually Like we knew it was gonna be easy, bro. We knew like eight ninety one was gonna be easy even though we were not a hundred percent, right?
So coming into this, what was the plans? Were you guys kind of spitballing on the day, like this feels good, let's do this or whatever. Did you have laid out plans ahead of time?
Well, we had we had scenarios. We had everything planned out to a T.
Uh yeah, so I wanna say for um we weren't changing our openers.
Yeah, well that was a f that was the worst kept secret.
