What is KingCon and why are the organizers launching a Stephen King convention?
OK, so welcome, everybody. Welcome to a very, very special episode of King Size. And normally, as you know, it is myself and my brilliant co-pilot. Well, actually, the pilot. Why is he the co-pilot? He's probably the pilot. I'm the co-pilot. The brilliant Simon Balkan. And Simon Balkan is here. But we've got an incredibly brilliant looking crew with us today, haven't we, Simon? But before that, over to you. How you doing, my man? You all right?
Yes, I'm a little sniffy and a little coffee, but I will try not to make that recurring feature of this episode because it should absolutely be not about that. It should be about our fabulous guests and what they've got to tell us.
That's it. So we are we've got a very, very special episode. We have King Size meets King Con, which sounds like a film that I definitely would sign up to that I would want to watch. We are joined by four brilliant friends from King Kong. So listen, we're going to go around. I'm going to start because you're next to me on the screen. Andy, would you like to just give us a little bit of sense of who you are and why you're here today?
Well, I'm here to tell everybody about KingCon and what a great event it is. And everybody that's listening should turn up to it and join the rest of the King community that want to hang out with their fellow geeks. Because I know from experience... You can't talk to your family and friends about King. They don't get it. They don't understand it. And King Kong is the perfect opportunity for you to hang out with other people that are just as geeky as you.
Brilliant, Andy. I love it. Well, we sold already, my man. Sold already. And Andy, welcome to the show. And we've also got with us Jackie. Jackie, hi. Welcome.
Hello. Hey, I'm Jackie Mattis. Like Andy, we're just here to kind of geek out with some other King fans, let everybody know about King con, what it all entails, you know, tell you how awesome it was last time. And hopefully we can just continue to make it better.
Great stuff. Well, this is this is a wonderful geek space, a space for people to be able to just have those conversations and connect. So welcome. Welcome. And Chris, hi. How you doing, Chris?
How you doing? How you doing, my friend? My name is Chris Webster. You know, I've been involved with the. So it's the very conception of King Kong and it's become kind of a baby for me. And, you know, it's whatever we can do to help grow the awareness of this, I feel is extremely important because I don't think there was one person that went last time that had a bad time. So very important for people to find out how freaking cool it is. It really is.
Well, that is brilliant. And I tell you what, Chris, you know, Si and I, Si still works as a professional actor. I used to. And I can't say that anyone ever came to one of my productions or an event that I hosted and only no one had a bad time. Everyone had a lousy time at my shows. They were like, oh, God, we need to take we need to take lessons from you. Right. You sounds like you got the magic formula. Si, are we doing something wrong here?
Well, I don't know. I mean, I got so drunk at all of your shows, I tried to sort of blot the memory out. So were you in them? I don't remember. I mean, that's probably for the best.
I think it's probably best if you think that I wasn't in them. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And hey, you still owe me that bar tab, all right, man? Oh, yeah, I was going to send that to you, but I think if I was going to King Kong, I'd say I want to go stone-cold sober so I could remember and absorb every single moment. I probably wouldn't be able to sleep either. Does anybody sleep? I didn't sleep very much there.
It was a blur. I lived on tea for the four days, five days that we were there, and it's still a blur. There were just flashes of, did that really happen? You know, it was... Yeah, keep your head about you because you'll miss everything and you'll want to miss nothing.
Yeah, and you sleep when you're dead, right? I mean, these are the occasions where you just go for it. And Paul, what about you?
