I tell you, Sarah, the Broncos-Saints pipeline continues to grow. Familiarity is always a good thing. And I think when you look at where the Broncos are at, as they're looking to build a roster ahead of the NFL draft, and they're looking to build through the NFL draft, It's all about who you know, and this was the case once again as the Broncos added in offensive linemen with veteran experience to the mix as well, siding Calvin Throckmorton to a one-year deal.
Calvin Throckmorton, that's maybe one of the better names on the team, isn't it, Cody? I think we've got to declare. He's got at least, I think, an edge of the top five here for one of the top five names on the team. But you're right. The pipeline between the Denver Broncos and the New Orleans Saints, or I guess vice versa, is really alive and well. We've seen tons of former Saints, whether it's coaches, players, now front office people. They've been coming to Denver in droves following Sean Payton. It's kind of like maybe they like the guy or maybe they respect the guy or maybe they like working with the guy or something. It's kind of an interesting thing based on what you hear about Sean Payton from certain people.
But look, I like this move for the Broncos. They get some depth for the offensive line. You can never have too much depth. I think especially if you're talking about a quarterback competition this offseason, how important is it? to have good depth on the offensive line, to be able to give you those quarterbacks a good look, whether it's in training camp or preseason play, different things like that. I think you want to have experienced guys like this. And Throckmorton does have some experience. He appeared in 17 games in 2021, starting 14 of them when Sean Payton was still there as the head coach in New Orleans, appeared in 14 more games in 2022, played a little bit for the Titans and Panthers last season.
So there's, there's, Statility here, Cody, there's starting experience. And I think when you look at the Broncos second team offensive line right now, what you see is a group there that maybe not necessarily these guys are going to be taking anybody's job. But I think, like I said, you want to have the best possible group out there to get a clean evaluation as you're looking at multiple different quarterbacks. I think that's the most critical aspect of building the depth in the trenches right now.
Well, part of it as well, I think there's a theme a little bit amongst Denver's scouting department in terms of what they're looking for, particularly in offensive linemen. Now, while they have some young guys, I mean, we could even go back to the offensive tackle conversation. They got some young guys in Alex Poucheski and obviously Demontre Jacobs. I wonder if internally the organization feels like those guys could also play either guard tackle or tackle center, whatever it may be, is their positional versatility different?
