Chapter 1: What is discussed at the start of this section?
I've been pretty vocal from day one that there's been differences spoken out on my podcast.
It was cool to have both the lucky dogs up there racing. I thought we might see if the podcast is still going next week actually after this one.
Rightio, welcome to episode 26 of the Lucky Dogs podcast and we have stepped it up this week. I think a few people might have seen our average studio last week. So Barclay was actually nice enough to come up before the race on Friday and let you know, Brodie, that we could use this studio. So a little bit nicer than our hotel room the other week.
Yeah, we're actually very thankful. And for everyone that's wondering who Barclay is, he's our acting CEO at the moment of Supercars. So it was very nice of him to come up on Friday and said we can come to MediaWorks, which is where we are right now in Christchurch. So yeah, very privileged to be here. And it's pretty Hollywood, isn't it?
Yeah, this is really cool. And great to get the podcast out so quickly. But we've had some big milestones since filming our last podcast.

Chapter 2: How did the studio change enhance the podcast experience?
And that was that we cracked 10,000 followers on Instagram. 16,000 on Facebook. Look at us go. Geez, we're getting big, aren't we? No, we're not.
But we've also got... I feel like I'm carrying the podcast on my back at the moment with my results.
Yeah, yeah. I've got to get some more, some better ones. Please, Will. Also, merch is available online. There's a new range out. The shirts look really good. So it was cool. It was actually really cool on the weekend how many people came up and got merch signed and say, and were saying they really enjoy the podcast. So thanks to everyone that came up and...
saw us throughout the weekend we're actually messaging each other um i think it was on the saturday we did the signing session on saturday i actually couldn't believe how many people had hats and t-shirts so yeah thanks to everyone and obviously um yeah obviously we're in new zealand so a lot of kiwi support which was really cool as well so yeah we actually really appreciate it the new zealand fans are always great that was a big part of the weekend that we'll uh we'll get on do later but i guess for us we we filmed the last podcast on the monday and then um sunday sunday yeah that's right
right? Cause we didn't race on the Sunday. So, uh, during the cyclone, but, um, then we all had a couple of days off. So, um, all the drivers went and did kind of different things. Um, I ended up going straight down to Queenstown on a little holiday, um, which was pretty cool. We, uh, To be honest, we did nothing. Went down there. I learned what it was like.
Brock taught me what it was like to actually be a driver. So we went to the gym for three hours, which was amazing. And then what else did we do? So we flew down there Monday, Monday, midday.
chilled out monday night gym on tuesday and then we actually went out to highlands on wednesday for red bull took a bunch of um influences for hot laps out there and all that sort of stuff and did go-karting that place amazing tony's done such a good job of that place as uh such a cool venue so great to get down there and uh get a little bit of time off between the events it's been to be honest i was glad to have a bit of time off because i thought we're probably gonna get booked in for a lot of
just, you know, commitments the whole time. And it's sort of been two weeks of just being flat out. So that was cool to get down there and chill out.
Yeah, mine was probably actually, ours was really low key. We actually stuck together as a bit of a team and we actually went high-carding on Monday. Oh, I've forgotten the circuit. What's the circuit on the way? Hampton Downs? Yeah, sorry. Yeah, we went to Hampton Downs and...

Chapter 3: What milestones did the podcast achieve recently?
At least you've got some weight behind you when you punt them. It really puts them in.
Yeah, it was actually so funny because the Hamden Downs go-kart track, it goes, I don't know, have you been there before?
I haven't been to the go-kart track.
It goes like uphill and downhill, but they're four strokes. So they're on the governor uphill. So even if like you're a bit bigger, you don't actually lose like that much time because you're on a limiter.
Yep.
But going down the hill, the bigger you are, the faster you go. So I was racing one of my mechanics, Jayden, who's probably like all but like 60, 70 kilos. And down the hill, I swear I was doing like 10Ks an hour faster than him. And I hit him down the hill. And he almost got sent into like just the abyss. It was so funny.
I love going high-carting. It is the best thing. I actually raced some kids recently at the high-carts. This is a random story, but they told me that everyone always goes, oh, I'll beat you in high-carts. And I went, okay, too easy. Well, if you guys beat me, I'll start half a lap behind. If you beat me, I'll give you a lap in my supercar, a hot lap.
But if I win, you have to come wash the trucks at Wilbrow Transport. And I made sure I beat them, and I actually made them come wash the trucks the other day. So... Anyone want to race? And I'll take you for a hot lap. And if I beat you, you've got to come wash the trucks.
How old are the kids?

Chapter 4: How did the drivers spend their time off between races?
Like, it'd be hard for them to actually work out, like, who the leader is at different parts of the race. And I think it'd be too confusing for them to get it sorted. Like, just from their precedent in the past. Yeah. So I think the second car was just going to get, like, screwed.
Yeah. But that's... See, I think we took the same attitude that they probably hadn't done this... like that style of thing lately, so there was probably going to be some teething issues. So you'd probably take lap one, even if you're the lead car, where, like Sandown, when they had it down pat a couple of years ago, lap two was faster. Lap four was faster. Yeah, that's true.
He just kept driving around. But, yeah, so that was interesting with the pit lane.
It was good that they actually... From what I understand, when they set up all the booms, they actually got it sorted pretty quickly. And I think because obviously like with Tim Edwards being in there, like he's just, I think he's a pretty good problem solver. So they got the forklifts out, moved some booms around, got it all sorted. The Tickford boom was actually in our garage.
So it was so funny, my mechanics, because you know how they have the pit boom cameras? As soon as the pit boom like moved in the camera, they're like, Nope, the camera can't be looking at our garage while we're doing setup and stuff. So yeah, it was pretty funny like how it also worked out, but everyone got on with it, which is pretty cool. I didn't even think about that.
Yeah.
That's a good point. Yeah. And then like Matty Roberts, who's team manager for Tickford, he's like setting up all their pit boom and he's like half an hour garage. I'm like, mate. Yeah. But we're having a joke. I'm like, it's actually pretty cool though.
So it's good. Nah, it is good. Um, another thing that happened over the break, um, I think this was on Motorsport 360, Barry, uh, Ryan came out and, uh, said Chev have no A grade drivers. Was that right? Well, we've got the thing here. At the end of the day, I'll be totally honest. We haven't got any A-grade drivers. Some of the drivers won't like hearing that, but they're not A-grade drivers.
We haven't got multiple winners in our GM camp. So I think that was them discussing, obviously, that they wanted a parity adjustment. And Barry was like... He wants the adjustment done, but I think he thinks that they need to do a bit better job in some places there. But to be honest, I don't know if it was there.

Chapter 5: Who were the standout performers in the recent Supercars races?
Was there anyone that was a standout? Like LeBrock probably did a good job to get, what was he, eighth, ninth?
Ninth.
He did a good job.
Actually, Ojeda was in the 10.
Yeah, I think Ojeda was in the 10 twice on the weekend. So that was pretty good by him. I think he's always been good. He'll find his feet. So that was interesting. But the start of the race...
Yeah, Matt got the jump on the outside and just like cleared out.

Chapter 6: What happened during the race start and how did it impact the drivers?
Really?
Yeah, he did like a me at Topor on the super soft.
What happened to Woody in this one?
Woody wasn't that... No, he wasn't that fast. And then I was behind him and he kept making mistakes at three and like bringing dirt on. And that's when I had my massive moment and went off. And then it all filled in the front and then it overheated.
How hot did it get to in the race?
Oh, like 150 or something. Oh, far out. Yeah, the oil pressure was like under, it was like 10 or something in some corners because the oil was that hot. Really? Yeah, it was like, the whole car was vibrating down the stride. I thought it was just going to explode.
but it kept going so they had to do an engine change with that but um it was actually so when i had my big off and it looked like i was doing desert racing i come back on and the whole cabin was full of dust so you like when you do a burnout and you can't see inside the cabin i could not see shit Like it was so bad. So I've rejoined and Anton's passed me and Woody's rejoined as well.
And there's just all sand falling on his car and Anton's followed Woody and he's gotten in the sand and just completely missed the hairpin.

Chapter 7: What were the key incidents and penalties during the races?
So I've lost Anton. So I can't see where I'm going at all. So I've almost taken the cut through. on the exit of the heaping because I didn't know where I was. I was just trying to clear Anton. And then I realized that I was on the cut through part of the track when it sort of half settled down a bit. And I've like gone over the, over cut the grass again, back on the track, through the curb.
I've never seen something so aggressive.
So I see you just run off. So you're out in, like I watched the replay, you're out in the dirt, come back on, Anton's past you. Then I was like, how did you pass him back? But on the exit, I've never seen someone just, like I said to Brock, are these guys racing speedway doing slide jumps? Like you've just fully just like driven on an angle.
I couldn't see where I was going. I could not see anything in the cabin. It was actually so bad. Luckily, he did miss the hairpin. You would have pole-axed him.
Oh, that was funny. You had a pit stop issue?

Chapter 8: How did the drivers feel about the rivalry and penalties after the races?
Oh, yeah. This race, I was so annoyed. I was angry. So I think I got up. I had a pretty good start, and I got up to 10th in the first lap. Like, I started 16th. I was on the outside row. I was just blazing down into turn one. Everyone on the inside I got. And then I was like, oh, yeah, 10th. I think we were planning on doing four, running a bit long, doing four.
And I got a really good gap behind me. Chas was battling with Cooper or someone, or Job, and he ended up four seconds behind. So we're like, okay, even if he does a two-stop, we should be able to do a four and get out in front of him. So that'll be great. Came into the pits. I don't actually know what happened. Our wheel gun failed pretty much. So they couldn't get the left side done at all.
So they ended up...
you know generally i will do a four tire stop in we can do about seven seconds seven and a half seconds for a four tire stop um and it ended up taking 11 and a bit seconds to do a three tire stop so i came out really with no advantage one extra tire than chas and further behind i was thinking you know they probably did a two tire stop in three four seconds so you know what that means don't you what that's the effect of running two weekends back to back without
Yeah, well, I'm sure there is.
Because all the... I'd say probably the better teams would go back and rebuild all the pit guns and you couldn't do that for a doubleheader, can you?
Yeah, no, that's true. And I didn't actually get to the bottom of... They said they were going to look into the gun and try and understand if it was... Yeah, if it was a... you know, something that they over life, lack of servicing, or it was just saying that it was unfortunately failed.
I'm not really sure there, but it was pretty disappointing because I felt like I probably, we worked out that we probably should have finished about eighth in this race and ended up finishing. I think I don't even know what it was 13th in the end. So just for points and all that, like I know eighth isn't great, but it's a lot more points. So that was annoying. And that was,
pretty much already to start my weekend you know would have finished sixth in the first one damage so finish seven eight then get a fourth and then in this one once again probably eight something goes wrong so it's just our weekend did not go to plan at all just from little silly things that that sort of some were well you say it's out of your control probably is in our control it's something that's
