Hey all, welcome back to made it out. Today is the final episode. I know that's probably like a shock to y'all. And seemingly out of the blue, but it's actually something that I've been sitting with and meditating on and journaling about and pretty much like on my mind constantly for the last 10 months. So I kind of want to give you all a window into what's been happening, the thought process behind it, why I I want to try to answer all of your questions because I know that there's just going to be like a a flurry of questions and comments in the in the comment section. Obviously, we all know that when I first got to New York, I pre-recorded a bunch of episodes. And really that was just because I didn't have a studio space anymore. I kind of I was contractually obligated to finish made it out. I wanted to keep it going. And my life was just really Kind of all up in the air. I wasn't, I didn't have a place to live. I all of my stuff was in the storage unit, as you guys know. And I kind of just was like winging it. So I basically got to New York and I recorded pretty much the whole season in within a couple of weeks. And I'm really happy that I did things that way. I I really just followed my intuition, but it gave me the time to just be able to like a settle in, because as y'all know, I
randomly decided to actually stay in New York and move here. Um so it gave me the time to settle in and just kind of figure everything out. I think after a breakup it's hard because In the past, I've made a lot of really rash decisions in those times where you're just like, ah, like you don't know what's going on and you're emotional and you want something to feel grounded. And so in the past I've like, oh my God, so many bad haircuts, so many like bad highlight jobs. I've bought cars. I've signed apartment leases that were way too expensive. And so I just knew like, we're not gonna do that this time. We're just gonna like figure things out, feel things out before we make any big decisions. So I'm really
Thankful that I had the wisdom. Um and really just that I've made mistakes in the past that ha informed my choices this time to take things slow and set myself up for like success. So That's what I did. And in that time, I once I found an apartment and kind of got my bearings here, I really started to like look at made it out and think about it and U a big thing was I wanted to put together a new team. I think. when you are so deep into something it's hard to with the same team, it's hard to get fresh eyes and um just like fresh perspective and and know The right direction. So it was really on my heart and mind to put together like a really new, solid, excited team. So and because I had lost my producer and my editor, I needed people, so um
I did that. I got a new manager who I you guys have heard me talk about her before, but uh Kira is actually someone who I went on a date with like eight years ago. Actually, we went on a few dates. I love Kira. She we kind of parted ways. We were just in like different groups in different scenes in LA. And randomly, like my last. Pride in LA. She came to a party that I had hosted and It was just kinda crazy. Like she met my mom. My mom was at that party and it was just weird. It was like This reconnection that felt like, oh, hold on to this. Like, I don't know why, but it was like just just keep keep that going. So we stayed in touch, and when everything happened, we she was in New York and we got dinner, and I basically bullied her into becoming my manager.
Kira's a fucking shark. She's been in the industry for so long and just was like. Giving me so Much good advice and just like kind of outside fresh eye perspective on what I was doing and I literally was just like, I I need you on my team. And she was like, Mel, that's I I have no I don't manage like this is not my plan and Um, a couple days later she called me and she was like, Okay, if you're serious, let's do it. And truly she has been one of the people who has gotten me through the past ten months. Um It's hard when you
