Chapter 1: What led to the infamous night at Bondi's Icebergs?

0.031 - 25.679 Josh

Hello and welcome to a special episode of the Maths Funny Podcast and part 4 of the night that changed everything. As what we're diving into today all erupted because of the infamous night out at Bondi's Icebergs. And in this episode, I'm going to be answering the number one question that it's not just us viewers are asking every night, but cast members and producers too.

0

26.421 - 39.403 Josh

And that's what the hell happened behind the scenes this season, which led to Gia, Brooke and Beck so quickly and so viciously turning against Alyssa and Stella.

0

39.687 - 60.217 Brooke

Has the edit just completely cut out Alyssa and Stella being so-called mean girls? I have never been more disgusted in a series or season of maths in my life. But why do you hate these girls so much? It's not making sense, is it? It's not making sense. As far as I'm fucking concerned, we haven't seen Stella or Alyssa be fake in any way.

0

60.298 - 64.884 Brooke

Especially when it comes to their relationships, they seem very genuine. Just sitting here like, what did we miss?

0

65.025 - 67.348 Unknown

Why did they turn on you? What's your crime here?

67.328 - 94.416 Josh

Um, as the country and many cast members still remain confused, I figured it all out. And in order to explain this, I'm going to have to take us back to July 2025, the very first week of filming. And as far as I can work out, there's one person behind this entire thing. The mastermind, you could say, although I don't think they're a master at anything.

94.868 - 112.033 Josh

She was the catalyst who started the divide, the instigator of the plot to take down her co-stars, and then the cheerleader clapping along as everything imploded in what Australia has now dubbed the nine minutes of TV, which never should have aired.

112.013 - 139.282 Josh

She was also calculated in how she started a smear campaign against One Bride in particular at a time when all media was scrambling to figure out who the new cast of this show were just days into production last year. Which I know for a fact because... This cast member, she was feeding me information which I now know to be fake.

139.302 - 155.149 Josh

And I've now realised they were attempting to use me as part of their takedown. Now everything that happened and this big divide and all that we're now watching unfold, to me at least, it all circles back to one person. Gia.

Chapter 2: Why did cast members turn against Alyssa and Stella?

159.156 - 160.318 Alyssa

Pipe down, okay?

0

160.459 - 171.062 Josh

And the plan she went into this show with, which is now backfiring against her in ways I don't think she ever anticipated. Gia, do you regret going on maths?

0

171.278 - 180.03 Unknown

100 million percent. Yeah, yeah. Wish I never went on maths. I had a very quiet night's life before that.

0

180.05 - 203.592 Josh

And again, for all this to make sense, you're going to have to bear with me as I start at the very beginning, which was the very first day of filming last year. The girls' hen's night. Because Gia didn't just walk in and make it clear that she was going to be a main character this season, but she made it clear that, in her head at least, she is better than everybody else in that room.

0

205.494 - 218.208 Alyssa

I was in this situation, but he moved on. Yeah. Oh, babe, I've never been broken up with. I leave every guy, like, a bit of a man-eater.

218.228 - 220.59 Brooke

I leave every guy.

221.6 - 222.562 Gia

Yeah, nah.

222.582 - 246.043 Josh

When it comes to any reality star from any show, there's always some varying level of delusion of their own importance alongside an arrogance and a sense of entitlement. And if you do apply to be in Australia's most talked about show, Deep down, and whether you admit it, you liked the idea of being watched, talked about, and potentially adored.

246.804 - 271.516 Josh

But the difference with Gia is, by the time she got onto Married at First Sight and walked into that hen's night, she'd spent years attempting to be famous. And I suppose, to her at least, she already felt that she kind of was. Woman's Day recently uncovered a former star now profile from when Gia was 19, which is a website for people who literally aspire to become stars now.

Chapter 3: What role did Gia play in the plot against Alyssa and Stella?

475.249 - 497.796 Beck

From the outside, not only did Alyssa have substantially more followers than Gia, but she also had the thing that I don't think Gia had ever managed to build through her previous attempts at fame.

0

497.776 - 515.059 Josh

which is an engaged audience with high-end brands wanting to work with her. Now with that in mind, imagine how Gia then felt as she discovered that Alyssa had been matched with David, who the media were kind of hyping up as this cool guy with a successful rap career behind him under the name Cavelli.

0

521.553 - 538.988 Josh

And that same week, as we got our first glimpse at the various cast members once the weddings were shot, the media were also reporting how Gia had been matched with a guy called Scott, who they were dubbing a fame-hungry failed reality star after doing multiple shows before but never really getting anywhere in the industry.

0

538.968 - 542.974 Unknown

That run across the water jets was very impressive.

0

542.994 - 543.394 Josh

Thank you.

543.575 - 547.781 Unknown

You just went hell for leather. Taking your shirt off, was that part of the strategy?

547.801 - 569.329 Josh

Kind of my little trick. So Gia entered this experiment believing that she's the star, only to then find out there's a girl with more relevance than her. And that girl's been matched with someone cooler, whereas her guy's already been referred to as a bit of a loser. And now this is where it really gets interesting. And it's kind of where I start to come into it.

569.647 - 590.98 Josh

The one thing that everybody who goes on maths knows is the fact that every season, the show only produces one or two stars. And by stars, I just mean people who remain in the public eye while securing all of the brand deals, media opportunities and future television roles. So essentially from the day the cameras start rolling and all the cast meet,

590.96 - 617.963 Josh

Although genuine friendships can and do form, deep down, they're all also rivals fighting to get ahead so they can make sure that they come out on top and they end up the star. So from the moment that Gia then discovered all this about Alyssa, Alyssa was no longer just her co-star. She was Gia's biggest rival and she was one that she had to take down through any means necessary.

Chapter 4: How did Gia manipulate the media during filming?

728.997 - 752.182 Josh

Two days after that feature, the same journalist at Daily Mail on August 11th then did a wider piece on all of the cast. And that piece, of course, featured Gia at the very top, again referred to as the wildest bride in maths history, really hyping her up. And then further down, they said this about Alyssa. Influence is the end game.

0

752.944 - 771.137 Josh

Nurse and part-time influencer Alyssa already boasts a massive online following of more than 270,000 TikTok fans thanks to her glamorous lifestyle and high-energy content. Friends describe her as fiery but lovable and someone who doesn't back down from a challenge.

0

771.117 - 795.64 Josh

Fresh out of a high profile relationship, Alyssa is tipped to be one of the most talked about brides of the season, but sources say she won't put up with nonsense just to stay in the experiment. Her knack for thriving in the spotlight has some predicting she'll turn maths into her biggest platform yet, opening the doors for brand deals and mainstream media work.

0

796.328 - 820.024 Josh

Now, in that little write-up, do you notice how Alyssa's section was introduced on a negative with the subhead, "'Influence' is the endgame," therefore presenting her from the very start as not being there with the right intentions. And that little piece ended on a negative with, "'Her knack for thriving in the spotlight has some predicting she'll turn maths into her biggest platform yet.'"

0

820.004 - 839.65 Josh

The same week after those articles were published, which was after the first dinner party and all the cast moved in together, I was around doing my thing and I'm seeing Gia around a fair bit. And that's when I start to get DMs kind of pinging into my inbox. Gia tells me to look into Alyssa's followers as they're all apparently fake bots.

839.63 - 850.347 Josh

Gia tells me Alyssa's going to be the villain of the season. Gia tells me that no one likes her. And at that time, I'm like, okay, I'll look into this and I play along like, oh my God, no way.

850.407 - 870.377 Josh

Because before I even bother to look into anything myself and then decide if I'm going to report on it eventually, my main thing at the start of production is just to keep the line of communication open because above all, I want the inside scoop. And the best way to get that is just by feeding into the cast's ego whenever they reach out.

871.358 - 888.402 Josh

So if G is messaging me hating this person, I'll go along with it before I even know the person, before I even bother to look into it because they think I'm on side. When I eventually got around to looking into those claims and I did an audit on Alyssa's socials, there was no evidence her followers were fake.

888.905 - 908.922 Josh

Yet for those first few weeks of production, all my notes as I tried to piece together what was happening on set was Alyssa equal villain and no one likes her. And for those first few weeks at least, Gia would have been happy thinking, well, that's Josh on side, as well as the Daily Mail and potentially more outlets.
