I like how bills have to have catchy hashtag titles. My feed, my way, that if it passed would make it law that social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, et cetera, they're going to have to, there's gonna be a far reaching binding agreement that they have to tell you, they have to ask you, do you want us to curate your content via an algorithm or do you want to do it yourself? It's gonna be the first in the world. There's legislation in Europe that is close to this, but nowhere before has said you've got to.
I think Albo's really enjoying um leading the world and having a a moment because Australia is the first. We were the first to do the under sixteen social media ban. We won't necessarily be the first to do the algorithm. But it takes me back to the early days of social media and the internet when There wasn't infinite scroll and there wasn't algorithms so that you used to actually see people that you followed, which I don't remember the last time I saw anyone I followed on social media.
Why does it why is it such a big deal, Jesse? Because like in a way you're like, Well, I like it that they're serving me bits of this, bits of that. But the people who are really mad about the algorithms, why?
Uh this if it went through and if we turned off our algorithms, it could literally change the way that millions, if it's adopted globally, uh millions of people think. And that is because the way um the way the algorithm is used is best illustrated through the COVID example. Right. So let's say in twenty twenty you were slightly skeptical about the vaccine, which fair enough point. Maybe you were just like, I want to do a bit of research. People did, the algorithm pulled them down into this rabbit hole where the next thing they believed the queen was a reptile. That is happening every single day with I have it all the time. Which
