Welcome to Master Your Money, Budgeting, Saving, and Debt-Free Living. I'm your host, Nate Tanner. On this show, we use the Tregator philosophy to help you keep your budget balanced, build your savings and investments, and knock out debt with confidence. Picture a triangle, three sides, all connected, perfectly balanced.

What is the Triggator Triangle and why is it compared to a structural triangle?

Nate Tanner 0:33
This is one of the strongest shapes in architecture. That's why it holds up bridges, towers, and roofs. Each side supports the other. And if you remove one, the whole thing collapses. That's what your financial foundation should look like. At Tregator, we call it the Tregator Triangle, and it's built on three pillars. Budget, save, pay off debt. These aren't just financial buzzwords, they're systems of support. When you have all three in place, working together in harmony, you create stability. You gain clarity, you start moving forward without always feeling like you're falling behind. But when one side gets ignored or gets all the attention while the others suffer, that's when your plan starts to wobble.
Nate Tanner 1:22
You might be saving like a champion, but living in chaos because you don't have a plan for your income. Or you're paying off debt aggressively, but leaving yourself exposed with no emergency fund. Or maybe you've got a spending plan, but there's no savings or debt progress happening. That's what we're going to talk about today. What the Trigator Triangle is, what happens when it's out of balance, how to bring it into harmony, and how this simple framework can change the way you manage your money. So whether you're just starting out or you're feeling stuck, it's time to stop seeing budgeting, saving, and debt payoff as separate things and start using them like the triangle they are, stronger together.
Nate Tanner 2:04
What is the greater triangle? It's simple.

How does the Triggator Triangle define the three pillars: budget, save, pay off debt?

Nate Tanner 2:09
Budget, save, pay off debt. Three actions, three outcomes, one system. On their own, each of these is helpful, but when you connect them, that's when the magic happens. Let's break it down. Number one, budget, AKA your spending plan. This is where it all starts. It's your blueprint. Budgeting isn't about saying no to everything. It's about saying yes to the right things. It gives your dollars direction. Without a spending plan, your money doesn't know what to do, and it usually disappears trying to figure it out. If you don't have a plan for your money, someone else definitely does. Just think about the last time you were binge watching YouTube or endlessly scrolling through Facebook. How many companies did you see out there with a plan for your money?
Nate Tanner 2:59
In fact, try this. Open Facebook and check out your feed. Your first post is probably from a friend. Next, another friend post or something random that you may be interested in. If you're lucky, you might see a carousel of reels or friend suggestions next. But within three or four scrolls, bam, you're hit with an ad. Someone who has a plan for your dollars without direction. At Tregator, we don't do rigid budgets. We do spending plans that move with your paycheck and flex with your life. Number two, save. Short-term, long-term, and peace of mind. Saving gives you breathing room. It's your peace of mind fund. It's your life happens fund. Whether it's an alligator fund, an emergency fund, or a savings goal, savings builds comfort into your plan.
Nate Tanner 3:52
It helps you avoid relying on debt when stuff hits the fan. And it helps you sleep better at night. We start off savings with building your peace of mind funds, the Alligator, Emergency, and Savings Goal funds. As you begin to feel the peace of mind that they bring and your spending habits and mindset shift, you expand your savings to retirement and investment funds for long-term security and wealth building. Number three, pay off debt, breaking the chains. Debt keeps you tied to your past. Every dollar you send to a lender is a dollar that can't go towards your future. Paying off debt is how you reclaim your income and your options. At Tregator, we don't pay off debt by accident. We do it with intention, based on a plan that starts with budgeting and is powered by the margin created through savings.
