What is consciousness and how does it differ from thoughts and emotions?
Mm, Chuck Rudy, Chimaster. The deepest, most meaningful conversation. Anybody can have. It's about consciousness. But we never have discussions about that. Are we conscious? Yes. We're conscious. A moment or what that means. Do you know you're conscious? You know, think about it. But you're aware. Have your thoughts? You're conscious of your emotions. You're conscious of what comes into the senses. You're an aware of being. Another word for consciousness is awareness. Is there a thing called awareness? Or just stuff that we're aware of. Yeah. Is it? Deepest spiritual discussion. Is there a thing, an entity, a substance, an essence? Called consciousness, awareness. Or Oh is this just what we're aware of? You're aware of your thoughts, you're aware of your emotions.
You're aware of your feelings, you're aware of your body, you're aware of what comes into your senses, all five of them. They're very aware of Бутиптиров consciousness. And in most people's cases they never even thought about it. Why? Because they think about it. They're conscious of the thoughts. And so it's like a fish doesn't go in the water 'cause they never get out. Most people have never gotten out of being addicted to being conscious of the thoughts. The consciousness is aware of the thoughts. But it's so aware of the false that it doesn't contemplate who's aware of the thoughts. It's just aware of the thoughts. Most people don't even care who's a word of thousands. They just want them to be what they want them to be.
Understand that. I'm aware that if I have thoughts that I like, I feel good. So I want to have thoughts that I like. Who does? No, no, just let me work on having thoughts that I like, because it makes me feel good. I don't know what makes you feel good. then I don't pay attention to who's experiencing those thoughts. I pay attention to the very thoughts that feel bad to think about what I need to do to make things change so that I feel good. That was a big mouthful. I hope you understood that. It's all about consciousness. But consciousness dwells where is consciousness? Behind somebody once said that. Once he asked Yogananda, where is consciousness? He said, right behind every thought. Of course it is. What's behind every thought?
The awareness of the thought. If you're not aware of the thought, then you're not aware of the thought. There's no thought. You have to be aware of it. In order to know you had a thought. The trouble is if the thoughts are not comfortable or if they're really comfortable You want to do something about it. You leave this awareness of being, awareness of consciousness, and get involved in what you're conscious of. And that is the definition of a human being. Somebody who is lost in what they're conscious of. What's the definition of an enlightened being? Someone who has not lost what they're conscious of. They're just aware of being conscious. Well. What does that mean? If you're out on the ocean And you Pick up a glass of water.
And somebody says, Where is the ocean? You don't say in the glass. You say everywhere's. It's the same everywhere. The word ocean means Any place that has the waters everywhere. Conscious is exactly the same. Consciousness is everywhere. Not my consciousness, no, yes, it's everywhere. But your awareness of being is addicted to being aware of your thoughts. Therefore, though consciousness is cave okay, so stick a glass in the ocean and say this is the ocean. No, it's not the ocean. It's not not the ocean. Right? But it's not the ocean. The ocean is everywhere and everything. You just have to stick your glass in there. Consciousness is everywhere at all times, evenly, period. Not concentrating more on one thing versus another, not aware of one thing more than another.
It's just like the ocean. It's just awareness. Awareness is just the state of the universe. Awareness. Well, how come I don't experience that, that oneness that I'm this awareness of everything? That's because you're staring at the glass of water. And if you stare at a glass of water, all you see is a glass of water. If you never look at anything but the waters in the glass, you say that is the ocean.
