What is the connection between theoretical physics concepts and the fairy realm in this story?
Hey Jeffrey here, and welcome back to Nightfalls. I don't know about you, but I think science is incredibly intoxicating. In particular theoretical physics. Have you heard of the Many Worlds interpretation? The holographic principle? M theory? Check them out if you haven't. What they have in common is that they propose there may be far more magic to our universe than meets the eye. So maybe some of the old folktales we've heard about fairylands overlapping with our own aren't as far from true as we may believe. I'd like to tell you about the time my friends and I first step through the veil separating our world from the other world. The realm of the Faye. There we wild away hours that seemed to stretch and distort, making it ever so inviting to just lay down and sleep for a while.
And rest easy. There won't be any theoretical physics to wrap your head around. If you're ready. Then we'll begin. Before we begin, here's the quick ad break that keeps this free content possible. But perhaps there are nights when you need something a little different: a story with less plot to follow, fewer characters to connect with, and nothing much to keep track of at all. That's exactly what Catherine Nikolai offers on her podcast: Nothing Much Happens. Each episode is a cozy, calming bedtime. Time story where, as the name suggests, nothing much happens.
Catherine uses soothing narration, repetition, and comforting sensory details to give a busy mind somewhere quiet to rest. Millions of listeners around the world turn to nothing much happens to quiet their thoughts and make the journey into sleep feel a little easier. Alright, now back to Night Falls. Humble bumblebees buzzed about the clearing. The chirping of the crickets kept time for us. And the ever crackling campfire was something of a comfort as my friends and I entered our third day of searching. Leon Ann Sheed's reputation preceded her. The Faye Muse's magic made sure that no one ever managed to finish a full painting of her.
How does the narrator introduce the ‘Nothing Much Happens’ podcast as an alternative bedtime story?
As you worked on capturing her likeness, she drew energy from you. And with it grew more beautiful by the minute. She would take all the energy she could until you were swaying on your feet. Battling to keep your eyes open. And giving in to the need for a selection. It was almost as though the instant the fee was in front of you. Her magic ensured that all you could think to do was sleep. Hadn't spent much time in Leon and Sheed's presence. But one unfinished painting and the seemingly endless sleep her magic had plunged my friend and I into, was all it had taken for the Fey to firmly establish herself in my thoughts. Just before we had slipped from wake to sleep that day, she had promised to Vanny that my friends and I would be welcome in the other world that she and those like her called home.
If only we could find our way there.
