But first, I have a message from Today's sponsor, Fatty 15. Did you know that helping older Navy dolphins unlocked a secret to healthier aging for all of us? I'm excited to share C15 from Fatty 15. It's the first emerging essential fatty acid discovered in more than 90 years.

And when we don't have enough C15, our cells can become fragile and age faster. And to help fix that, doctors spent over a decade developing the pure science-backed C15 found in Fatty. Yeah. It helps repair cellular damage and supports sleep, cognitive health, metabolism, and energy. And personally, since adding Fatty 15 to my routine, I have noticed better sleep, faster sleep, and steadier energy. Fatty 15 was developed to help support healthy aging for all, from kids to parents to grandparents. That's why award-winning Fatty 15 is now available as pure capsules, delicious apple mint gummies for teens. And adults and yummy berry blast gummies for kids. Fatty 15 is on a mission to help support healthy aging for all, including all ages and stages of life.

My next guest is a fellow survivor of childhood sexual abuse. She calls herself a thriver, except her abuse was at the hands of her own father. And she has turned this abuse into her life's mission to raise awareness and prevent other children from going through the same pain. She's given TED Talks, she hosts her own podcasts, and most importantly,
Hayley Caronia 2:06
Importantly, she teaches parents and children alike about consent. Joining me now is host of the About Consent podcast, child sexual abuse prevention specialist, Rosalia Rivera. Rosalia, thank you so much for being here. I found you on Instagram a while ago. I've been following you and I've been a fan of yours and the work that you do for a long time. I'm so glad that I found you too, because you're a wealth of knowledge on a topic that is not talked about enough. But it is so important for families, for guardians, for babysitters, really for anyone who has a child in their life that they care about, or just people who care about children and protecting them. So I want to start off by having you tell your story.

How did your father start abusing you?
Rosalia Rivera 2:50
Yeah, thanks for having me on. Yeah, so for me, I actually didn't remember my memories until I had children. Um, and so I had pieces of memories. Um, I knew that there was this one concrete memory that I had um when I the very first time that I remember my father touching me inappropriately and and being really confused by it. Um I was I think somewhere between eight and nine years old. And it was very shocking because I didn't have the language to explain what was happening. I knew that it was wrong because I remember my mom always saying something to the effect of like, you know, don't let anyone touch, you know, that place between your legs. Like she was very religious and she didn't have, you know, words for you know, she thought saying vagina was, you know
Rosalia Rivera 3:39
a dirty word, right? So she she couldn't even say it to me. And she herself is a survivor. So I think she had a lot of triggers and trauma from that that she obviously didn't share with me when I was a kid, but She warned me and so to have my own father touching me in a way that I knew wasn't right, but I couldn't understand like why he was doing it of all people.
