Chapter 4: What makes Riviera Country Club a standout venue for the tournament?
I've been here a couple times, but never been to a tournament, and it's one of the easiest spots to go watch a tournament, especially when you get kind of out into that far part of the property. You know, 16 greens, it's right over there by six, seven and eight are very good viewing spots. Five is great. Four is great. You can dart over to the back nine if you need to.
It's, man, it's just a primo, primo venue. And I feel like, I'm really glad we came out and saw it in person because there's just so much to the details of the golf shots that are required, so much to the nuance of the whole locations. I've been kind of, you know, I'm going to nerd out about this stuff, looking over at the shot charts and just seeing how few birdies are coming from the rough.
First of all, the women don't hit it in the rough very often, but just how proper everything is playing in terms of the scale, everything we've wanted Riviera to be for the women, I feel like is on full display.
Yeah, I mean, that's kind of what I was alluding to. Riviera is providing the canvas, the test that these women are going through. I just... We had circled this one specifically, Sully, I think when news first broke about Riviera. And through two days, I just am in love with how this golf course is and how it's playing. And as you said, I followed Ron and Yin most of the day.
And two of her pars stand out to me. Long par fours, 13 and 15. She missed the fairway on each one.

And With where the pin is and you're not going to spin the ball coming out of the rough. Like on 15, she had 190 yards in for a second shot. You just have to play to the fat part of the green. The round two lead in the clubhouse is four under par.
That's a great sign, in my opinion. And I think they can keep pushing the course a little bit, keep tucking those pins. It's going to be a real, real test this weekend.

you know almost completely eject from the proceedings today go from first page of the leaderboard to the last page of those making the cut she also hit one of my favorite shots of the day that up and down she had on 10 she's long uh way left of 10 and spun one hit this low spinner out of the rough and granted she had the upslope to land it into but i let out an audible audible sound uh when i saw that would check up and hold because you got to watch a lot of 10 today you had a you had a nice little spot up there
10 was so cool. Not reachable today, and I think that's worth noting. Through two rounds, they kind of made it. The tees were back. They made it more of a two-shot hole, probably for pace of play reasons.

I know, I know. Oh, God. The pin was, if you can imagine that slender green, if you're looking at the green from the fairway, let's say, that pin is like back far right. tucked. And so the play was off the tee, you know, you're trying to play left and to kind of give yourself that second shot face onto the flag.

And it was just fascinating. I sat there for 10 groups. So however long that was nary a group had three balls on the putting surface, not one of those 10 nary a group. What a phrase I saw. I saw, uh, Tamburlini's group had just as many bunker shots as they did putts. I think as a group they had four bunker shots and four total putts.
I saw Amy Lee, I hate to call her out by name, the amateur from South Korea. She hit every single one of the greenside bunkers. I saw many women go from one to the other. Amy was the only one that hit all three.
Is there like a stamp that you get when you go to each one?
Yeah. Yeah, there should be. Lucy Lee hit the shot of when I was out there. She stuck her wedge to about a foot and a half and made birdie. It just was a fantastic hole, and I think it was playing a lot different than we see it at the Genesis, and for that reason,
It reminded me of why I think like when we were younger, I think the 10th hole at Riv had a lot of juice as like one of the best short par fours in the world. And I think there was a little bit of variety in how the men attacked it. And today, while there wasn't a ton of variety off the tee,
Just watching the forced wedge shot from, let's say, 50 to 100 yards, the precision required to hold that green was just exquisite. It was a real test for being a 300-yard hole, and that's the type of golf I just love. I had such a good time sitting there in the grandstand. If you come out here, there's a wonderful grandstand right there at 10 Green. I would encourage you to spend time there.
Bring your sunscreen, though. Bring your sunscreen. I was baking once the cloud cover wore off.
As many times I've watched this hole on TV, I still got to just right of 10 as it was coming up. I cut over through nine. I'm just like, Jesus, man. I don't know if I've ever seen this. I've been there in person before. I've never seen that angle of the green and where they had that hole location today, too.
How good does it feel to have spent ā you watched 10 groups come through, and I think as soon as you left, Shuri Sakuma holed out. I know.

And I was surprised nobody really tried to play just safe to the front left part of the green, take their medicine, and just take your two putts and walk away with a par. If you make the angle farther from the right, it actually gets potentially a more interesting hole. You got to kind of hit over 9 green to do that, unfortunately. But that's fine. That's fine.
um who who you have the scatter plot up here uh who made who went long of the flag today uh that's uh kedra uh kedra nova she hits it hard i've seen her hit a couple shots and maya drove it over the green yesterday maya it's has maya been doing maya stark that is she's been doing speed training or something she's absolutely mashing the ball i don't remember she won the u.s she won this event last year i don't remember her being like
I don't know what the numbers actually say, but on some of these holes, she's just hitting the ball in places that the rest of the field is not hitting them. It's crazy.
I was curious what Julia Ramirez-Lopez, if she hit driver off the tee. I saw Asterix Talley come through. I kind of thought she might try to pump driver up there. She hits the shit out of the ball.
