1.212 - 9.02 Solly

Be the right club. Be the right club today.

0

12.944 - 20.351 TC

That's better than most. How about him? That is better than most.

0

20.371 - 28.84 Solly

Better than most. Expect anything different.

0

29.731 - 49.571 Randy

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the note laying up live show podcast presented as always by our friends at Titleist coming to you live from on site here at the United States Women's Open presented by Ally here at Riviera Country Club, a dream come true for these two to my right. The one closest to me is Mr. Big Randy. Hello, big.

0

Chapter 2: How did Nelly Korda perform in her second round?

49.591 - 50.052 Randy

How are you?

0

50.032 - 57.262 Solly

I am excellent, Solly. I guess I can take off my media credential here. If you didn't know, I had it inside the ropes access today.

0

57.302 - 63.932 Randy

Your boy is living. TC is here. First ever time at Riviera. Did it meet the hype?

0

64.473 - 77.271 TC

It did. It did. The course, the setting, I think the cream's rising to the top, the setup, all of it. We'll talk about it all, but 10 out of 10 for me.

0

77.437 - 95.547 Randy

It's off to a great start. And of course, tonight's show is actually going to be coming. The first few segments here are going to be coming commercial free, ad free by our friends at Titleist, the number one ball at the U.S. Women's Open. They snuck that one in there. You know, teeny, teeny, tiny ad. But thank you to them for letting us get right to the show. Randy, I'm starting with you.

95.527 - 109.62 Randy

biggest storylines of the week. If someone's just trying to get caught up, maybe hasn't had a chance to watch shame on you. First of all, it's been incredible evening viewing a lot of coverage from sunup to sundown, but heading into the weekend, get people caught up. Where, where are we at the halfway point here?

109.735 - 122.66 Solly

We're in a great spot. I would say forward-looking. Tune in. As TC just said, the cream is rising to the top. We have some excellent names up there on the leaderboard. I would say maybe the biggest story, naturally, Nellie Korda.

Chapter 3: What insights does Lauren Coughlin share about her experience at the U.S. Women's Open?

122.7 - 141.926 Solly

We're interested in how she is doing. She won the first major of the year at the Chevron about a month ago. plus ago. Struggled a little bit in round one, but answered the bell today with a 67. She has herself at two under par overall, right in the thick of things. I'd argue in an excellent place heading into the weekend.

0

141.986 - 155.301 Solly

So I won't step on all the top storylines, but I would say Nellie, Ron and Yen, we have a very good board developing. And I think credit to the venue and the tests that these women have faced thus far at TC.

0

155.602 - 159.893 TC

And credit to Nelly, Gino, LC.

0

160.034 - 160.555 Solly

Some fight.

0

160.856 - 163.924 TC

Yeah, I've seen some grit, some metal, some bottle.

164.204 - 165.006 Solly

Proper play.

165.167 - 173.016 TC

Big Saturday and Sunday coming up for some of these ladies. And you know what? I would say big Saturday, Sunday coming up for LA as well. Get your asses out here.

173.397 - 180.927 Randy

It's time, people. It's time. And we need some cheer. We need some recognition of good shot. I had Shaq all worked up today. Jeff Shackelford.

180.947 - 182.189 TC

Jeff Shackelford, not Shaquille O'Neal.

Chapter 4: What makes Riviera Country Club a standout venue for the tournament?

229.911 - 247.54 Randy

I've been here a couple times, but never been to a tournament, and it's one of the easiest spots to go watch a tournament, especially when you get kind of out into that far part of the property. You know, 16 greens, it's right over there by six, seven and eight are very good viewing spots. Five is great. Four is great. You can dart over to the back nine if you need to.

0

247.74 - 270.152 Randy

It's, man, it's just a primo, primo venue. And I feel like, I'm really glad we came out and saw it in person because there's just so much to the details of the golf shots that are required, so much to the nuance of the whole locations. I've been kind of, you know, I'm going to nerd out about this stuff, looking over at the shot charts and just seeing how few birdies are coming from the rough.

0

270.293 - 282.049 Randy

First of all, the women don't hit it in the rough very often, but just how proper everything is playing in terms of the scale, everything we've wanted Riviera to be for the women, I feel like is on full display.

0

282.637 - 308.822 Solly

Yeah, I mean, that's kind of what I was alluding to. Riviera is providing the canvas, the test that these women are going through. I just... We had circled this one specifically, Sully, I think when news first broke about Riviera. And through two days, I just am in love with how this golf course is and how it's playing. And as you said, I followed Ron and Yin most of the day.

0

309.463 - 315.011 Solly

And two of her pars stand out to me. Long par fours, 13 and 15. She missed the fairway on each one.

Chapter 5: How are the course conditions affecting player performance?

315.432 - 343.626 Solly

And With where the pin is and you're not going to spin the ball coming out of the rough. Like on 15, she had 190 yards in for a second shot. You just have to play to the fat part of the green. You have to take your medicine. And it left her with, I don't know, a 50-foot two-putt, which was not easy. She converted it. But it just requires a lot of patience. And it's, you know, when you can –

0

343.606 - 365.359 Solly

drive it in the fairway there there are certain points where you really get the green light but then other times it's just just survive just take your par and move on and i just it's a wonderful test of golf i i mean we're gonna get into it i just love how this course is playing The round one lead was five under par. The round two lead in the clubhouse is four under par.

0

365.66 - 374.127 Solly

That's a great sign, in my opinion. And I think they can keep pushing the course a little bit, keep tucking those pins. It's going to be a real, real test this weekend.

0

374.147 - 382.173 Randy

17 players under par at the halfway point, and only 12 of them are two under par or more right now.

0

382.474 - 390.1 TC

And there's legitimate downside risk outside of just simple, sloppy bogeys. I mean, you saw Minji Lee go just...

390.08 - 417.37 Randy

you know almost completely eject from the proceedings today go from first page of the leaderboard to the last page of those making the cut she also hit one of my favorite shots of the day that up and down she had on 10 she's long uh way left of 10 and spun one hit this low spinner out of the rough and granted she had the upslope to land it into but i let out an audible audible sound uh when i saw that would check up and hold because you got to watch a lot of 10 today you had a you had a nice little spot up there

417.35 - 428.965 Solly

10 was so cool. Not reachable today, and I think that's worth noting. Through two rounds, they kind of made it. The tees were back. They made it more of a two-shot hole, probably for pace of play reasons.

429.125 - 431.368 TC

They heard Gabby Lopez.

431.388 - 451.058 Solly

I know, I know. Oh, God. The pin was, if you can imagine that slender green, if you're looking at the green from the fairway, let's say, that pin is like back far right. tucked. And so the play was off the tee, you know, you're trying to play left and to kind of give yourself that second shot face onto the flag.

Chapter 6: What are the biggest storylines heading into the weekend?

451.579 - 472.295 Solly

And it was just fascinating. I sat there for 10 groups. So however long that was nary a group had three balls on the putting surface, not one of those 10 nary a group. What a phrase I saw. I saw, uh, Tamburlini's group had just as many bunker shots as they did putts. I think as a group they had four bunker shots and four total putts.

0

472.695 - 485.275 Solly

I saw Amy Lee, I hate to call her out by name, the amateur from South Korea. She hit every single one of the greenside bunkers. I saw many women go from one to the other. Amy was the only one that hit all three.

0

485.315 - 488.58 TC

Is there like a stamp that you get when you go to each one?

0

488.6 - 505.491 Solly

Yeah. Yeah, there should be. Lucy Lee hit the shot of when I was out there. She stuck her wedge to about a foot and a half and made birdie. It just was a fantastic hole, and I think it was playing a lot different than we see it at the Genesis, and for that reason,

0

506.568 - 523.935 Solly

It reminded me of why I think like when we were younger, I think the 10th hole at Riv had a lot of juice as like one of the best short par fours in the world. And I think there was a little bit of variety in how the men attacked it. And today, while there wasn't a ton of variety off the tee,

523.915 - 547.612 Solly

Just watching the forced wedge shot from, let's say, 50 to 100 yards, the precision required to hold that green was just exquisite. It was a real test for being a 300-yard hole, and that's the type of golf I just love. I had such a good time sitting there in the grandstand. If you come out here, there's a wonderful grandstand right there at 10 Green. I would encourage you to spend time there.

547.652 - 552.42 Solly

Bring your sunscreen, though. Bring your sunscreen. I was baking once the cloud cover wore off.

552.841 - 567.365 Randy

As many times I've watched this hole on TV, I still got to just right of 10 as it was coming up. I cut over through nine. I'm just like, Jesus, man. I don't know if I've ever seen this. I've been there in person before. I've never seen that angle of the green and where they had that hole location today, too.

567.706 - 573.936 Randy

How good does it feel to have spent – you watched 10 groups come through, and I think as soon as you left, Shuri Sakuma holed out. I know.

Chapter 7: What strategies are players using to tackle the challenging holes?

617.04 - 636.002 Solly

And I was surprised nobody really tried to play just safe to the front left part of the green, take their medicine, and just take your two putts and walk away with a par. I mean, H.J. was a little bit that way, tried to get after that pin, just didn't have the angle. It plugged, and I think she walked off there with a double. She made a double, yeah.

0

635.982 - 642.195 Solly

Yeah, you could just watch these car crashes happening in slow motion. It was extraordinary.

0

642.335 - 648.568 Randy

I think it was 17 or 19 doubles on the 10th hole alone today. 19 doubles, 17 birdies, something like that.

0

648.649 - 661.311 TC

And then tomorrow, we'll probably see a totally different hole. They're going to probably bump it up. Sully, we were out there looking at... We were assessing the situation a little bit of, hey, you know what? They should put the tee on 10 over on 3T.

0

662.273 - 672.469 Randy

If you make the angle farther from the right, it actually gets potentially a more interesting hole. You got to kind of hit over 9 green to do that, unfortunately. But that's fine. That's fine.

672.449 - 697.647 Randy

um who who you have the scatter plot up here uh who made who went long of the flag today uh that's uh kedra uh kedra nova she hits it hard i've seen her hit a couple shots and maya drove it over the green yesterday maya it's has maya been doing maya stark that is she's been doing speed training or something she's absolutely mashing the ball i don't remember she won the u.s she won this event last year i don't remember her being like

697.627 - 705.014 Randy

I don't know what the numbers actually say, but on some of these holes, she's just hitting the ball in places that the rest of the field is not hitting them. It's crazy.

705.175 - 716.987 Solly

I was curious what Julia Ramirez-Lopez, if she hit driver off the tee. I saw Asterix Talley come through. I kind of thought she might try to pump driver up there. She hits the shit out of the ball.

717.007 - 721.992 TC

I think she hit it left on seven or eight. What's the one?

Chapter 8: Who are the favorites to win the U.S. Women's Open after the halfway mark?

792.802 - 796.19 Randy

Truly salute you. I don't know how you're doing it. It's so, so impressive.

0

796.21 - 798.575 TC

I can barely get up there.

0

798.595 - 824.43 Solly

I know. My wife doesn't ask me for much when I go on these road trips. She was like, you have to give Madeline a message for me. Tell her to chill the fuck out. She's making the rest of us look bad by playing seven months pregnant. I texted my wife. I'm like, hey, Allison Lee, she had her son 13 months ago. I was like, you have nine months to get in shape when the US Open. Best of luck.

0

825.051 - 827.415 Solly

She did not appreciate that.

0

827.395 - 836.465 Randy

Inchi Chin, Jennifer Kupcho, Hinako Shibuno, who's kind of become a horse for course or monster for sponsor, I guess, for the U.S. Women's Open.

836.685 - 844.034 TC

Her last 25 events, she's not at a top 10. You know what her last top 10 was? The U.S. Women's Open 2025.

844.654 - 853.064 Randy

That's insane. Who's the men's version of that? Just shows up on like the, I guess, kind of Louis Oosthuizen.

853.224 - 853.665 TC

Blocky?

853.865 - 871.466 Randy

Yeah. Oh, God. Hyunjoo Yoo is also at T3, so is Gabby Lopez and Seyoung Kim as well. NG Chun, a past winner of this event. Jennifer Kupcho, she won the ANA when it was the Chevron. It might have been the Chevron.
