What is Dan’s upcoming solo tour and why should listeners be excited about it?
Hello and welcome to another episode of No Such Thing as a Fish, a weekly podcast coming to you from the QI offices in Hoburn. My name is Dan Schreiber. I am sitting here with Andrew Hunter-Murray, Anna Tyshinsky, and James Harkin. And once again, we have gathered around the microphones with our four favorite facts from the last seven days. And in no particular order, here we go. Starting with fact number one, and that is Anna.
My fact this week is that paramedics in Japan have asked people to stop rearranging their shoes when they take them off at the door.

the right? Because that's how we do it in our house.

have. That's good. It's for convenience, usually. So this was an Instagram video that was put out by the fire department in the city of Kanazawa. And they were saying that, of course, in Japan, you take your shoes off at the door, basically everywhere you go, if you're going to someone's house. And the polite thing to do is to rearrange people's shoes regularly. so that when they're leaving, they can put them on easily. So you'd rearrange people's shoes so that they're facing outwards. So you could almost just walk out of the door and just step outwards without even looking down. Sounds
nice.

clever. If I'm a paramedic and I'm taking someone out on a stretcher, I want to be able to step into my shoes and walk out the door.
But what way are your feet facing? Not if
you're the one who's walking
backwards on the stretcher. Okay, is that the reason?
That's the reason. And they arrange their shoes as they show in this video very specifically so that when they are carrying a stretcher out, one of them steps in sideways, one of them might be going backwards. And then, you know, that polite bloody do-gooder whose husband's just collapsed upstairs starts rearranging the shoes
they can lose 30 seconds if they come out and someone's rearranged their shoes 30 seconds here or there with a heart
attack right yeah okay it's very sensible I've visited Japan once or twice and the shoe thing is you know it's really real and normally there's a there's a lower bit where you leave your shoes and then you step up into the room which I just think is so nice
