Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Two federal immigration agents involved in the shooting of a Venezuelan immigrant in Minneapolis last month appeared to have lied about the details of that incident. That's according to a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security. NPR's Sergio Martinez Beltran has more on this rare acknowledgement of potential missteps by ICE agents.
It happened on January 14th in Minneapolis. DHS initially said an officer fired a shot to save his life. The agency said he was being ambushed and attacked by three immigrants with a snow shovel and a broom handle during a targeted traffic stop. Julio Cesar Sosa Celis, the subject of the traffic stop, was shot in the leg.
But now DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin says the federal agents involved have been placed on administrative leave. These, after a joint review by ICE and the Department of Justice, found they appear to have lied in their sworn testimonies of the incident. McLaughlin says the officers could be fired or prosecuted for any violations. Sergio Martinez Beltran, NPR News.

More talks are expected, but haven't been announced. The U.S. already has thousands of troops, dozens of warplanes, and roughly a dozen ships, including another aircraft carrier, in the region. San Francisco's teachers union and school district came to a tentative agreement after bargaining through the night Thursday. The deal includes a major win for the union, fully funded health care for educators and their families, as well as raises up to 8.5%. Here's Union Vice President Frank Lara.
What we were able to achieve in this strike was an unwavering, long-lasting sense of solidarity that will only benefit every single San Franciscan.
The agreement comes after nearly a year of negotiations and a week without school for the district's 50,000 students. For NPR News, I'm Katie DiBenedetti in San Francisco.

You're listening to NPR News. The Motion Picture Association of America is calling for the maker of a new Chinese AI video generation platform to stop infringing on intellectual property.
As NPR's Chloe Veldman reports, the action comes after a video of a fake fight between actors Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt that went viral.
The Motion Picture Association issued a statement condemning TikTok parent company ByteDance, the maker of the just launched AI platform Seed Dance 2.0, for allowing users to create hyper-realistic videos featuring the likenesses of well-known actors and characters, including Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.
Filmmaker Rory Robinson wrote on social media that it only took a two-line prompt to create his star-studded fight video. He added that Hollywood might be, quote, cooked as a result of the technological advances. Some industry professionals agreed. ByteDance did not immediately respond to NPR's request for comment. Chloe Veltman, NPR News.
