Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Corva Coleman. Over the weekend, President Trump wrote online, threatening to bomb Iran's power plants and saying he did not want a deal. This morning, Trump wrote, there are talks underway between the U.S. and Iran. NPR's Cameron Keith reports, Trump says they've been, quote, very good and productive.
On Saturday, Trump had given Iran 48 hours to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, or he said the U.S. would hit and obliterate their various power plants, starting with the biggest one first. But in a new post, the president says he is pleased to report the U.S. and Iran have had productive conversations, quote, "...regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East." He said the talks would continue through the week and he would postpone military strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure for five days, subject to the success of the meetings. This comes a little more than two weeks after Trump said there would be no deal with Iran except unconditional surrender and that the U.S.

There's been a deadly crash on the runway of New York's LaGuardia Airport. An Air Canada regional jet hit a fire truck upon landing late last night. The pilot and co-pilot were killed. The fire truck was going to investigate an odor at a different jet. Catherine Garcia is the executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
It is anticipated that the airport will be closed at least until 2 p.m. this afternoon. to facilitate the investigation by NTSB, which has already begun to be on site.
