Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. Millions of people are in the path of a major nor easter that's strengthening along the coast. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected from the mid Atlantic into New England. In New Jersey, the biggest concern is water pushed inland by high winds. National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Pereira warns that flooding could worsen through the weekend.
Expecting uh major coastal flooding beginning uh this morning, Saturday morning, with the high tide. repeated rounds of flooding are are likely through the weekend. And with that we're encouraging people to prepare for significant inundation in low lying areas near the shore.
In the Pacific, forecasters are tracking two major storms. Hurricane Polo is making its way toward Baja, California Sur with wind speeds of one hundred and sixty-five miles per hour. Wind and rain from Hurricane Nolo are starting to come ashore on the big island of Hawaii. Bill Dorman from Hawaii Public Radio reports is the third hurricane to threaten the state in the last six weeks.
