Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. Demonstrators across the country are taking to the streets today to protest the policies of the Trump administration. The marches are part of the No Kings movement. Bruce Convisor reports from New York, where a massive rally is planned.
The No Kings demonstrations will likely be the loudest expression of opposition to President Donald Trump since he took office in January. More than 2,500 rallies are planned across the country, but the largest one will likely be here in New York. Nationwide, more than 5 million protesters turned out for the last No Kings protest in June. and organizers expect a bigger turnout today. At least tens of thousands are expected to take to the streets in New York. The protests come against the backdrop of a government shutdown, now in its third week, with all three branches of government under Republican control. Pussy Riot, the rebellious punk rock band from Russia, is expected to perform here, but the time and location have not been publicized.
