Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. President Trump says he's looking ahead to rebuilding Gaza, saying the process would begin quickly after the recent ceasefire agreement. Speaking on Fox News in an interview airing today, Trump said immediate efforts would focus on clearing unstable structures and restoring basic services.
We would get all of the people that live there into decent homes throughout the region. If you look, Egypt has a lot of land. Jordan has a lot of land, you know, right next door. A lot of countries have a lot of land.
Trump says that while the U.S. is committed to the overall peace process, other Middle Eastern states could assist with rebuilding various sections of Gaza. His comments come as both Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Israeli strikes reported in Rafah today.
NPR's Greg Myrie reports it marks the most serious threat to the agreement that began a little over a week ago.
Hamas militants fired rocket-propelled grenades and directed sniper fire at Israeli troops in southern Gaza, outside the town of Rafah. This is according to an Israeli military official speaking on condition of anonymity. Israel responded with airstrikes, according to Israeli and Arab media reports.
Both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of ceasefire violations since the truce came into effect October 10. However, this appeared to be the most serious clash so far. Israeli troops still control just over half of Gaza's territory, though they're mostly in open areas outside cities and towns. Greg Myrie, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

Chapter 2: What are President Trump's plans for rebuilding Gaza after the ceasefire?
This weekend's No Kings protests in big cities and small towns across the country drew massive crowds. Demonstrators marched through the streets of New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Portland. Summer Van Benton from member station WBEZ reports on yesterday's rally in Chicago.
They rallied for a number of causes, which include defending voting rights, the deployment of federal troops, and the increase in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Chicagoan Lindsey Bailey says the Trump administration's actions are both illegal and unconstitutional.
I have been very concerned with all that's going on with ICE in our cities and around schools and ripping apart families.
By all official reports, protests nationwide were peaceful. For NPR News, I'm Summer Van Benton in Chicago.
President Trump is threatening to cut U.S. funding to Colombia, accusing its president of encouraging drug production. In a post on social media, Trump called Gustavo Petro an illegal drug leader and said he's not doing enough to stop the flow of narcotics into the U.S. This is NPR. Thieves have broken into the Louvre Museum in Paris, stealing priceless jewelry.
The BBC's Hugh Schofield reports officials say at least one stolen item has been recovered.
At around 9.30 this morning, so when the museum had already opened, the gang of three or four men armed with cutters, they broke into the Apollo Gallery, which is where what remains of the French crown jewels are kept. There they opened two display cases and made off with several items of jewellery. The whole operation took seven minutes and the men left the scene on motorbikes.
It's not known what precisely were the items stolen, but the Interior Ministry said they were of inestimable historical and cultural value.
That's the BBC's Hugh Schofield reporting from Paris. A British lawmaker is raising alarms after a deepfake AI video seeming to be of him was widely circulated on social media. Vicki Barker reports from London.
