What were the outcomes of the meeting between New York City Mayor-elect and President Trump?
Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Hurst. New York City Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani called his meeting Friday with President Trump productive. A White House official now says he thinks Trump doesn't plan to withhold federal funding from his hometown. NPR's Luke Garrett reports.
The chummy Oval Office meeting shocked political onlookers, but Mamdani tells NBC News he still believes Trump is a fascist. That's something that I've said in the past, I say it today. On the economy and affordability, Mamdani says he and Trump found common ground.
I found in the meeting that I had with the president a productive one and a meeting that came back again and again to the central themes of the campaign that we ran.
Trump's top economic advisor, Kevin Hassett, tells CNN the president no longer wants to act on his threat to curb federal funding from New York City. Well, it feels like he doesn't mean it now. And I guess we'll have to wait and see what Mamdani does. Hassett says the White House was reassured by Mamdani's choice to retain the current police commissioner, Jessica Tisch.

Hamas sent a delegation to Egypt to discuss the ceasefire with Israel in Gaza. And since the agreement took effect last month, Israeli strikes in Gaza have killed more than 300 Palestinians. And Piers Katlonsdorf has more.
A Hamas official speaking on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to speak publicly, told NPR that a delegation from the group met with mediators in Cairo to, quote, discuss the Israeli violations of the ceasefire. Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the fragile ceasefire agreement.
The ceasefire is holding, but advancement toward a lasting peace remains stalled. Over the weekend, Israel said Hamas militants threatened Israeli troops and responded with a series of strikes across the enclave, killing more than 20 people. Israel says several were Hamas officials. 339 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza during this ceasefire.
according to health officials, including more than 60 children. Kat Lonsdorff, NPR News, Tel Aviv.
