Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Support for NPR comes from NPR member stations and Eric and Wendy Schmidt through the Schmidt Family Foundation, working toward a healthy, resilient, secure world for all. On the web at theschmidt.org.
Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Ryland Barton. Vaccine advisors to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have stopped recommending all babies get a dose of the hepatitis B vaccine at birth. The vote was contentious and strongly opposed by most of the medical community. NPR's Ping Huang explains.
Earlier this year, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dismissed all the previous members from the panel, and he handpicked his own, many of whom, like Kennedy... have long questioned the safety of vaccines that have long been in use. So the hepatitis B vaccine is among the first vaccines they're reviewing on the schedule.
And the committee cited concerns from some parents and also said that other comparable countries don't give hepatitis B vaccines so early.
NPR's Ping Huang reporting, the Supreme Court has agreed to take up the constitutionality of President Trump's order on birthright citizenship in The order says children born to parents who are in the U.S. illegally or temporarily aren't American citizens. Justices said they'll hear Trump's appeal of a lower court ruling that struck down the restrictions.
The case will be argued in the spring, with a ruling likely in early summer. Congresswoman Adelita Grijalva says she was pepper-sprayed during a confrontation today during an ice raid in Tucson. The Southern Arizona Democrat was sworn in last month, weeks after winning the special election for the seat.

Chapter 2: What recent changes have been made to the hepatitis B vaccine recommendations?
Alisa Resnick of member station KGZZ has more.
In a video posted on X, Grijalva says she was sprayed in the face while attempting to get more information about an ICE raid at a popular restaurant in Tucson.
We just came up on a community that was protecting their people. We had, I would say, maybe 40 ICE agents, most of them masked in several vehicles.
Video on social media shows masked agents firing pepper balls as plumes of smoke engulf the road. ICE confirmed multiple people were in custody after special agents and the IRS executed 16 federal search warrants across southern Arizona. The agency did not immediately respond to questions about the use of pepper spray. For NPR News, I'm Elisa Resnick in Tucson.
Netflix has struck a deal to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, the Hollywood giant behind Harry Potter and HBO Max. The $72 billion deal would bring together two of the biggest players in television and film and potentially reshape the entertainment industry. It would also put two of the world's biggest streaming services under the same ownership.
But as NPR's David Folkenflik reports, it still needs to be approved by regulators.
This will trigger an extraordinary degree of scrutiny in Washington, even in Donald Trump's Washington. And that's because both on the merits, this would be an extraordinary consolidation of like minded properties. There are ways in which you can interpret that more narrowly. But nonetheless, on its face, it would seem to invite a strict and lengthy level of antitrust review.
NPR's David Folkenflik reporting, the S&P 500 added a tenth of a percent today. The Dow added two tenths of a percent. This is NPR News. Residents of eastern Congo say fighting has intensified despite a peace agreement signed by the Congolese and Rwandan presidents in Washington, D.C., President Trump met with the leaders yesterday to sign the wide-ranging deal.
The Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group blames the Congolese army, while the army accuses M23 of bombing schools. A federal judge has given the Justice Department permission to release transcripts of a grand jury investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse and alleged trafficking of underage girls in Florida. The case ended without any charges being filed against the millionaire sex offender.

Kylian Mbappe and company have to face Norway in their star striker, Erling Haaland. But with the tournament's expansion to 48 teams, it will be easier than ever to reach the knockout stage. Becky Sullivan, NPR News.
