Chapter 2: What military actions did President Trump announce regarding ISIS in Nigeria?
President Trump says he's ordered military strikes on ISIS targets in northwest Nigeria today, saying on social media the militants have been targeting and killing Christians. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also says on social media that he's grateful for Nigerian government support. and cooperation.
Chapter 3: Why is the American Academy of Pediatrics suing the federal health department?
But in the past, Nigeria's government has said Trump's portrayal of the security situation is misleading and that all religions have suffered at the hands of ISIS and other groups. Last night, a blast at a mosque in northeast Nigeria left at least five people dead. The American Academy of Pediatrics is suing the federal health department over the sudden cancellation of $12 million in grants.
As NPR's Selina Simmons-Duffin reports, the pediatricians allege the grants were canceled in retaliation for speaking out against the department's recent policy changes that could limit access to childhood vaccines.
AAP represents 67,000 pediatricians across the country. The organization has pushed back forcefully against the vaccine recommendations implemented by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime anti-vaccine activist. In the lawsuit, AAP says the Department of Health and Human Services retaliated against their organization because of that public criticism.
Chapter 4: What impact is the winter storm having on California's infrastructure?
The millions in canceled grants supported work on sudden infant death prevention, rural health, early detection of birth defects and more. The lawsuit was filed in federal district court in Washington, D.C., and says that without court intervention, these programs will end within weeks. HHS did not respond to NPR's request for comment. Selena Simmons-Duffin, NPR News.
A powerful winter storm is lashing much of California. NPR's Joel Rose reports the storm is causing flash flooding, power outages, and road closures across the state today.
Southern California has seen record-setting rainfall totals, with more than three inches of rain in Santa Barbara and parts of Los Angeles County.
Chapter 5: What details are known about the cyber attack on France's National Postal Service?
Bursts of intense rain caused scattered mudslides, flooded freeways, and prompted evacuation orders in parts of L.A. and San Bernardino counties.
Further north, the storm knocked out power to more than 120,000 customers in central and northern California, according to PowerOutage.us, while high winds delayed inbound flights to San Francisco International Airport by an average of two hours, according to the FAA. The storm also dumped several feet of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and forecasters say more could be on the way.

Chapter 6: Which Christmas movies are currently the most popular during the holiday season?
In Michigan, a quarter inch of ice is possible in parts, and freezing rain could fall in the mid-Atlantic tomorrow. U.S. futures contracts are trading flat. This is NPR. A pro-Russian hacking group has claimed responsibility for a major cyber attack on France's National Postal Service. Empire's Eleanor Beardsley reports the attack crippled the post office on the busiest season of the year.
The cyber attack was claimed by No Name 057, a pro-Russian group of hackers that has previously targeted media websites and government and corporate websites in countries including Poland, Sweden and Germany. Experts say its activities are designed to support pro-Russian information warfare.
It's also been accused of other cyber attacks in Europe, including around a NATO summit in the Netherlands and other French government sites. The group was the target of a big European police operation earlier this year. The attack was a major blow to La Poste, which delivered 2.5 billion packages last year and employs more than 200,000 people.
France has often been the target of pro-Kremlin disinformation actors. Eleanor Beardsley, NPR News, Paris.
