What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
off the rails from the U.S. Faster Valiance Council.
I am Reid Lutanen, CEO of the U.S. Faster Payments Council, and welcome to Season 6 of Off the Rails from the U.S. Faster Payments Council. Today I've got the privilege of talking with Jim Felice, Vice President and Head of Real-Time Money Movement at Visa. Jim and I talk about the huge volumes that are moving through Visa's Faster Payments Rails, how Visa thinks about developing and delivering products such as Visa Direct to the market, and who we like in the upcoming College Football Playoff Championship game. But first, the headlines. FPC's 2026 Spring Member Meeting is coming up on us quickly, and this is going to be a special one because we are partnering with ePay Resources to create joint programming and provide an incredible opportunity for our two membership groups to interact.
ePay Connect kicks off on Monday, February 23rd, and FPC members will receive a 50% discount on attendance. And ePay attendees, if you're listening... You are also eligible for 50% off guest attendance at the FPC member meeting. It's a great opportunity to interact with our members, get continuing education credits, and learn about the state of the art when it comes to faster payments. And ePay attendees, even if you can't attend our full meeting, we really encourage you to stay for the afternoon workshops on February 25th. There you can expect an interactive education session designed to help banks understand and navigate the rapidly evolving real-time payments landscape. Led by Sean Devaney from CGI, this session will be tailored for organizations looking at how to take advantage of the new real-time payment rails.
The session will break down the functional differences between FedNow and RTP, outline what it takes to onboard to each network, and demonstrate how real-time capabilities can unlock treasury operational and customer experience benefits. Through practical use cases, comparisons with consumer payment platforms, and insights from global fraud prevention models, attendees will gain a clear, actionable roadmap for evaluating and implementing instant payments. This is an opportunity to build knowledge, ask questions, and prepare your institution to compete effectively in a real-time world. As always, you can learn more about the FPC member meeting and register by heading to FasterPaymentsCouncil.org.
You can find a link toward the top of the page in the banner, or you can click on News and Events and then FPC Events to navigate that way. And with that, let's get to that conversation with Jim Felice from Visa.
Thank you.
All right, we're joined by Jim Felice from Visa. Jim, thanks for joining us.
Thank you, Reid. Looking forward to the chat.
All right, let's start off just by providing some context because the conversation we're going to have today is going to be focused primarily on Visa Direct money movement. So help our listeners understand what that is and what it is not.
Yeah, I think so. Visa Direct is Visa's real-time money movement platform. So it allows our clients to move money between bank accounts, card accounts, digital wallets all over the world in minutes, not days, not weeks. It works 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. So it doesn't take holidays, doesn't take evenings off, no bank holidays, etc. Works in 190 different countries. So it's unique in that it's both real time, but also global. So giving access to cross border, etc. So specifically in the US, it reaches virtually every single bank account in the US, every digital wallet, every fintech platform. So if you think of anywhere where someone might hold money. Visa Direct has that ability to connect to that platform, not only push money to that platform, but also pull money from it.
And what makes it unique versus many real-time payment rails We usually think of a real-time payment rail as a push payment, but Visa Direct has the unique ability through truly embedded experience to pull transactions as well. So think of a digital wallet or a neobank or a brokerage that wants to move money from the bank account that you have
