I am Reid Lutanen, Executive Director of the U.S. Faster Payments Council, and this is Off the Rails from the U.S. Faster Payments Council. Today's episode, I'll be joined by Greg Lloyd, client partner at Endava. Greg and I talk about AI, stable coins, and whether or not gasoline and fireworks are a winning combination. But first, the headlines. I'll be very brief this time. The FPC member meeting is less than one week away. I can't wait to get to Portland, Maine September 3rd and 4th to hang out with our members and talk about how we can work together to drive payments forward. And if you're listening to this, I think you already know that we'll be doing a live recording of the 100th episode of Off the Rails featuring Bridget Hall and a surprise guest and new games.
Reed Luhtanen 1:11
Hopefully most of you will be there with us in Portland, but if not, you can find it here as our first episode in September. Okay, as promised, brief headlines, and now let's get to that conversation with Greg Lloyd from Endava.
Reed Luhtanen 1:41
All right, Greg Lloyd from Endava, welcome. Excited to be here. Excited to have you. And, you know, we're going to talk through a number of different topics here, Greg. I think it'll be fun to kind of just hit a bunch of different high points. I think I'd like to start, though, with the trendiest of trendy topics right now. So I can put this in the show notes, you know, and we can talk that we talked about AI and that all the bots are going to love. Make sure you tag it. SEO, right? Obviously, AI is rapidly changing a lot in our lives. But, you know, how do you see it playing out when it comes to payments and treasury management specifically? I hear a lot of, you know, it's going to be used to prevent fraud.
Reed Luhtanen 2:23
But I mean, I guess I think there are some ways to actually make things better, not just prevent the bad stuff. What do you think?
Greg Lloyd 2:29
Yeah, I 100% agree. I was going to say bye, but that's later in the event. So no, 100% agree, Reid. And as I think about this, it's funny. When I think about AI, the key things that stick out for me are data and making it more usable and automating or simplifying things that at least often require or historically require some human brain because of a mess of data and decisions. And particularly for the treasury space, which is why I think it's a great question. When you think about the treasury space, it's highly complex because of very similar reasons because of data and complex data. And because of rules, what monies do I have? Where are they? Where will they be? Where are they stuck? What monies do I want in what particular place, right?
Greg Lloyd 3:16
Whether it's interest rates or payments, um, And so you think about the treasury offerings that are out in the market, zero balance accounts, interest rate tooling, stuff around receivables and payables. I mean, you line all those things up. For me, it perfectly aligns. That's a huge opportunity for AI to make a difference. Whether it's, again, just the payments piece of where is my money, where does it need to be, and the prediction around that. Or maybe predicting, hey, more often than not, this wire that I send out monthly typically hits in this timeframe. You think about automating decisions, automating money movement. It's funny, one time I saw a bank, I won't say who they are, but a bank and their corporate on stage talking about this new dashboarding and reporting and making everything real time.
Greg Lloyd 4:06
And then afterwards asked the bank, the corporate was ranting and raving about it. Afterwards asked the bank and the bank said, oh, we faked it. It's all batch data, but we made it look real time. Well, the cool part about AI is if you think about it, can sort of fake it but do better. Like another one is payroll, right? Like if you think about trucking companies, I know that's a huge use case for paying paying truck drivers when they drop off their merchandise and the mess of data that you've got to go collect. Again, I just think it's a huge opportunity for AI to help simplify that better predict it manage the mess of it, make it more usable for corporates and businesses.
