What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Off the rails from the US Fast Payment Council.
I am Reid Lutanen, CEO of the U.S. Faster Payments Council, and this is Off the Rails from the U.S. Faster Payments Council.
What are the episode headlines and event announcements at the start of the show?
Today's episode, I'll be joined by Craig Ramsey of ACI Worldwide. Craig and I are going to talk about separating the noise from the trends that really matter when it comes to faster payments adoption, and we're going to explore Craig's thoughts on American football. But first, the headlines. Believe it or not, FPC's 2026 Spring Member Meeting is less than three months away, and we are doing something new to make it an even more valuable experience for our members. This spring, we are partnering with ePay Resources to create joint programming and provide an incredible opportunity for our two membership groups to interact. ePay Connect kicks off on Monday, February 23rd, and FPC members will receive a special discount on attendance.
Then, beginning at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26th, 25th, excuse me, FPC and ePay attendees are all invited to joint sessions and then workshops tailored specifically to financial institutions exploring faster payments implementations. That all leads up to the main event on Thursday, February 26th and Friday, February 27th. It's gonna be a great event in our nation's capital. Registration is open now, so head to fasterpaymentscouncil.org, click on news and events and then FPC events and find that link. Also in Q1 of 2026, FPC will be holding elections to fill our two open seats on the FPC-ASCX9 Joint Steering Committee. That committee will be responsible for developing processes and establishing the strategic direction for the FPC's newly forged partnership with ASCX9 to develop faster payment standards.
All FPC business members are eligible to run for a seat on the steering committee and to vote in that election. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of payments in the United States, and I couldn't be more excited to get things rolling. Also, you might have noticed that we were hitting your feed a week earlier than normal. As we head into the holidays, we'll finish up our fifth season of Off the Rails in two weeks, and beginning in January, we'll be moving permanently to the first and third Thursdays of the month, so plan accordingly. Okay, I think that's all we have in the way of headlines. So let's head to that conversation with Craig Ramsey of ACI Worldwide.
All right, we're joined by Craig Ramsey of ACI Worldwide. Craig, thanks for joining us.
Hi, Reid. Thanks for having me here.
All right, Craig, obviously we're nearing the end of 2025. And in general, you know, I'd say a lot has happened over the last year, but I don't want to put words in your mouth. So how about we start with just hearing your assessment of the state of play when it comes to faster and instant payments in the United States?
Do you know what? Every year we look back at the past year and we look forward for the next year and we think, well, surely next year can't be as busy as this year. And sure enough, it gets busier and busier. Payments never fail to amaze me that there's always something going on. There's always some innovation.
How does Craig Ramsey assess the state of faster and instant payments in the U.S. at the end of 2025?
There's always some exciting new opportunities in payments, some of them regulated, some of them chosen to be part of innovation. But there's always something happening. And payments is such a dynamic industry. So it's fabulous to look back. But I'm much more interested in looking forward as well. But let's take a look at what 2025 has brought us. And then that will actually set us up nicely, I think, to look at what's coming in 2026 and beyond. So it was a big year. ISO 20022 went live. Now, it's obviously been live across multiple schemes for years and indeed across the world as well. But the the big shift this year was the fedwire go live in july to support iso 2002 and we were a pretty major part of that supporting our our banks uh in that transition um i guess though that it has it has implications though iso 2002 for years to come um the first thing we should be aware of is you know iso 2002 is not one thing
