One of the guys who's helped my career come along over the years, Bryn Griffiths joins the show.
The former Face Off show host, longtime employee with the Edmonton Oilers. I mean, Bryn, how are you doing today, man?
I'm doing great. That's because it's a beautiful afternoon. We just kind of hope that any storms that roll through are not damaging.
Yeah. No kidding. I mean, the rain over the last couple of weeks, man, it's just been ridiculous. It doesn't even feel like we've had a summer yet.
I know. And the problem now is you've got all this moisture at the ground level. So any kind of daytime heating, kaboom, we have thunderstorms and hopefully nothing worse than that. But it's been a bizarre summer. But it's been interesting to watch what the Edmonton Oilers have been doing the last little while.
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, it's just been move and move, left after right. It started to calm down since July. Well, not even really. They signed Colton Dock yesterday. So Stan Bowman putting in tons of work in this offseason. I mean, I guess that's where we'll start off. The Edmonton Oilers backslid last year. There's no other way to say it. They didn't have the success that they've had the last two years. I mean, what was your overall take on the season? And how do you think Stan Bowman has done so far in this offseason to address that?
All right. Well, let's let's take a look back at the season last year. I was a little nervous about the lineup in October and November. And you can see there just didn't seem to be any chemistry developing. And so many times and, you know, you go places, I go places. I know Bob goes a million places and we all get asked the same question. So what do you think? What do you think? And I had a bad feeling about the hockey club in November. I just didn't see anything coming together. And you like to see some stuff start to happen in the month of November. They were able to kind of stay competitive. But the biggest issue for me was couldn't find a way to win three in a row. Mm-hmm. Now, the one thing that I always worry about, I don't worry so much about winning streaks.
I worry about keeping the losing skids to three or less in a row. If you can do that, you're probably going to be pretty good. But they just couldn't seem to click. It just didn't seem to work. So when people were asking me around Christmas time last year, what do you think? Are they going to make the postseason? I really couldn't give them a straight answer at that point. I didn't really know. And I kept waiting and waiting and waiting.

And it just never seemed to click for me the entire way through the season. Going into the postseason in that playoff series against Anaheim, I had a bad feeling about it. I thought Anaheim was playing very, very well. And they looked hungry. The Oilers just looked like they had to go. Just didn't have it last season. And I don't know. You know, we could point to a million things and I've read a million things online. We've heard we've had texts, all that kind of stuff.
