Chapter 1: What updates does Bob Stauffer share about the Oilers?
Hey, it's Bob Stauffer. I just wanted to let you know that you can listen to Oilers Now ad-free on Amazon Music, included with Prime. All right, it's 4.35 in oil country. Welcome back, everybody. Bob Stauffer with you. We are going to go heavy text here for about the next five minutes on the Ashley Fine Floors text line 7800. 451-8800. This text comes in out of the 780.
I think it's stupid to say that Chris Knobloch is being treated unfairly. Stan Bowman told us in his end-of-the-year press conference that an evaluation process was going to be taking place. Rado texts us on the 780. He says, I agree with the text.
It says not all coaches win with multiple teams, but this team needs an experienced team that's committed to a tough style of play and strong accountability on defense. Cassidy is that guy and the best available right now.
Chapter 2: What are the listener opinions on Chris Knobloch's coaching?
Again, you can text us at 780-451-8800. Bob, huge Oilers fan here, but to be honest, after watching Colorado play Minnesota, I have to say I don't feel the Oilers are close to the Avs. The Avs play with an incredible intensity and work ethic from everybody. Whoever rebuilt the Avs after the last Stanley Cup is the guy the Oilers need, in my opinion, from Roland in Vancouver.
Well, if you listen to the show as far back as 2018-19, we're telling you about Chris McFarlane, okay? He finally received some kudos today from his peers. And I will tell you that Bob Nicholson in 2019 certainly got a scouting report on Chris McFarlane, the body of work.
He was the one that told me during the 16-17 season, I'll never forget the conversation in Nashville when Colorado had a horrendous year. Our organization is going to completely change. We want younger players that play with pace and tempo. And that is going to be part of our identity carrying forward. Believe me, they've done that.
uh gilly says on the ashley fine forest text line uh real talk bob listen if vegas doesn't grant permission because the only reason is that's how they conduct business aka cutthroat we'll treat them the same way sign every rfa and say look never ask us for a favor again well you gotta have cap space to sign restricted free agents remember that it is 437 in oil country um
bob you're being replaced by jason gregor but the orders don't have permission from 1440 yet that one comes to us from md okay well many would call out an upgrade uh you can text us at 780-451-8800 bob the problem with the orders organization is more often than not they go with the safe buddy buddy i'm your friend's hire and that's uh pathetic well i don't think that's necessarily this this is
This has been a unique and challenging perspective, to say the least, with what occurred today with Frank Cervalli's tweet saying that the Oilers had asked for permission to talk to Bruce Gassidy, and Vegas, to this point, had not allowed that to take place.
Alex from Edmonton says, Bob, the Edmonton Oilers need to bring back Colton Dock, Jason Dickinson, Connor Murphy, bring back Kapanen and Max Jones, and no to Jack Roslevic. Well, Colton Dock's a restricted free agent. Murphy, Kapanen, Jones, and Dickinson are all UFAs. So the owners have the property. They have property rights to Colton Dock. He's certainly not going anywhere.
Represented by Edmonton's Jerry Johanson. And Sam Bowman included him in the trade. To get him from the Chicago Blackhawks. Brandon from Windsor says, Bob, the owners need Cassidy for two years. He has what it takes to win the cup. Any chance they can bring in Todd Nelson as an assistant? He never wanted to leave when I spoke to him at the 2015 draft.
Well, of course, he was the head coach during the 14-15 season for the back half of the year under Craig McTavish as GM. Bob, do you think if and when it is granted, it will basically be a guaranteed hire, especially after this whole fiasco? I don't know how this is going to work out, right? I would assume at some point the orders are going to be granted permission.

Chapter 3: How does Bob evaluate the Oilers' performance compared to the Avalanche?
He says, let's ask ourselves if the order's finished in the same spot next year with a new coach, what does that say about the watch rinse and repeat cycle of coaches in Edmonton? I'm just getting tired of seeing the change, the coach show when the team is, uh, fully responsible for what happens on the ice. Thanks from study in Calgary. Again, you can text us at 7 8 0, uh, 4 5 1 8,800.
Okay.
Haji, Bob, can you, Haji says, can you help me understand how the NHL and specifically the Edmonton owners can operate in a professional manner yet consistently allow so many leaks relative to day-to-day operations? There is a litany of examples all the way back to Danny Heatley and likely before that, before I can recall. or I can't recall off the top of my head.
I understand there's a certain amount of expectation relative to lack of privacy, but the fact is this is people's lives being impacted, and the team needs to protect their assets better than the Oilers seem to do. Families, friends, and colleagues deserve more respect than what Chris Knobloch is currently receiving, says Haji.
If there's any chance that Bowman wouldn't have granted permission, he would have never asked the Golden Knights. Even more embarrassing... would be if, as intimated by Elliot, Cassidy doesn't even want an interview. Wayne Gretzky once uttered, Mickey Mouse organization after each passing day, the Oilers logo seems to be going back to two black round ears.
As a fan since 1978, says Haji, it infuriates me that the Oilers keep putting themselves in positions to let other teams embarrass them. Well, we don't know how ā Servalli said league sources.
Servalli was also the guy last Wednesday or Thursday that went on Toronto Radio and said more likely than not, the Oilers would have significant changes to the coaching staff, including with Chris Knobloch. And I'm going to circle back to this. The orders wrapped up the series against Anaheim on the Thursday. The team flew in on Friday. We spoke five to six on the Friday edition of orders.
Now that they talked about what didn't happen during the course of the series and said logic dictated that there was going to be some changes to the coaching staff. There's always changes to coaching staff year by year. And then Saturday morning, Stan Bowman was the first person to speak at the end of the year availability and said an ongoing evaluation was going to take place.
And often in hockey circles, advance work is done before change is actually made. Is this unfair to Chris Knobloch? You can certainly make that argument, though Chris is covered with a three-year contract extension. I guess, you know, and it doesn't make it fair. And I'll never forget Craig McTavish, end of the year, taking over as general manager back in 2012-13, saying,

Chapter 4: What coaching changes are being discussed for the Oilers?
He's won a Stanley Cup, and he gets the best out of their players. Yes, he's the best fit. Also, Vegas is classless and unprofessional. That one comes to us from Carmen. Carmen, others would say Cassidy's a really good coach. I mean, Elliot just said he's the best coach out there. Um, in terms of Vegas being classless, I would say they're ruthless. There's a difference.
Corey, Texas on the Ashley fine floors text line. How about a coach that keeps his lines consistent for more than two games for 49 in oil country, Bob Stauffer, along with Aiden Ganim and the texts coming in fast and furious, some supporting Chris Knobloch, some angry with the Edmonton Oilers for, um, You know, rumors. We opened up with Fleetwood Mac's rumors today. Getting out.

League sources say the owners have sought permission to interview Bruce Cassidy as they contemplate significant coaching staff changes. To this point, sources say Golden Knights have withheld permission from a division rival. Gamesmanship, perhaps, mostly unprecedented for the role. Guests and orders now receive gift certificates to Japanese Village.

Frank Cervale on the show yesterday had this to say about Chris Knobloch and his staff.
that I think he's a good coach. I think he's still got a lot to learn, and I think he'll probably be better in his next run, wherever else that is. But one, not enough growth. He tried to coach this team this year in year three, the same way that he coached them in year one, even though it's a different team.
Two, was probably stubborn and resistant to change, as evidenced by the late season changes addition of Paul Coffey back to the bench. And three, that was necessitated in part because he surrounded himself with likewise inexperienced and like-minded individuals that have a lot of the same comportment as him. You need To be challenged, you need different voices. You need to push the envelope.
