Hello and welcome along to Tuesday's Football Daily. I'm Phil Egan. Coming up today, Spurs have to settle for a point at home to Leeds in their fight against relegation. John Egan and Hull book their spot in the richest game in football and it's Xabi Alonso set to take over at Chelsea. But first, Tottenham are now two points clear of the Premier League's relegation zone with two games to play.
But once again at home, they let the lead slip in their one-all draw with Leeds. Matthias Tell put Spurs in front five minutes into the second half, but he conceded a penalty, which was scored by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Spurs keeper Antonin Kinski made a wonder save to keep out Sean Longstaff's effort late on. Boss Roberto Deserbi says they can take a lot of positives from the game.
We played a good game, not great, but at least played a good game. We showed the right spirit, everyone. I'm happy for the attitude, I'm happy for the behaviour. for the mentality. But we know and we move on.
De Zerbi was also fully supportive of Tell, the 21-year-old French forward.
A big hug and a big kiss. Nothing more. Because he's a young player, he's a big talent.
What happened in the Premier League clash between Spurs and Leeds?
He scored a great goal and he made a mistake for the experience because he has not the right experience.
Leeds were obviously already safe from Premier League relegation but manager Daniel Farke said he was proud of how they played.
Difficult away game, Tottenham back-to-back wins here. Once you go one nil down after this first half and then early in the second half, it can be very difficult and sometimes you can crumble. Not us. We showed again that we didn't want to lose this game. We stepped up. Yeah, it was definitely a good night for us.
Next up for Spurs is a game next Tuesday night away to Chelsea before they end their season at home to Everton. Spurs could be in the relegation zone by the time they go to Stamford Bridge, only if West Ham win away to Newcastle on Sunday. Elsewhere last night, Hull kept their Premier League promotion hopes alive with a 2-0 win away to Millwall in their Championship play-off semi-final. Mo Balumi and Joe Gelhardt came off the bench to score the vital goals at the Den. Ireland defender John Egan played the full 90 minutes. Boss Sergei Yakirovich felt his side were fully deserving of the win.
Great feeling, amazing feeling. We were fantastic today because we knew they would start very strong in the game but we responded very well and we go to Wembley.
However, Millwall manager Alex Neil felt there was nothing between the sides despite the scoreline.
I just think the first goal was always going to decide it. I thought it was such a tight affair.
How did Mathys Tel's performance impact the game for Spurs?
I think if we scored and they came out, we'd have created more spaces like they did as well and had more opportunities to attack. But it was a cagey game and to concede the goal in the manner which we did was disappointing.
Hull will play Southampton or Middlesbrough at Wembley on Saturday week in the playoff final. The second semi-final is on tonight. It's also scoreless from the first leg. Middlesbrough boss Kim Helberg says their fan support is a weapon he'd rather use instead of any anger his side may be feeling towards their opponent Southampton due to the alleged spying allegations.
I think it's more about the love for the supporters, the feeling from them that it's more important than anger for something else. I think that's where it could come from, it should come from in terms of that. So the support from the supporters, the work from everyone here, that gives me a lot of energy going into those type of games.
Borough have confirmed that Captain Hayden Hackney isn't fit enough to play any part in tonight's game.
