Chapter 1: What is the main topic discussed in this episode?
Football on Off The Ball. Slott has taken a lot of criticism for a lot of issues which are actually outwith his control and he does have credit in the bank having won the title last season with what just buying one player Chiesa who was rarely used and winning the title. He is manager of the year. Join in the obsession. Subscribe now at offtheball.com forward slash join.
Danny, I think that little smile nearly says it all. A sweet night for you personally and most importantly for Sharmour Glovers.
Yeah, most importantly for us as a team. Big week we had, obviously to play Shells, Pats and Bowers, all in the space of around a week or so. Brilliant to get nine points. I don't think there's probably many Dublin clubs who'll do that this year, go into three Dublin derbies and come out with nine points.
As you say, for me, obviously it's Sharmour Glovers, so a little bit sweeter, I suppose, but it's three points at the end of the day and just happy for the whole group.
Yeah, it's rare the way the fixtures have piled up that way, but I suppose the positive way of spinning it is the run that you guys are on to accumulate those nine points.
Yeah, we're obviously in a decent bit of form at the minute. We'll be disappointed probably when we look back at the Waterford one. It's probably a game we feel we should have won, but you can't dwell on things like that. We've bounced back properly in terms of the, obviously, as I've mentioned already, nine points out of nine in Dublin derby.
So hitting a bit of form now, and I think we still have a couple of years to go.
Certainly hit form in the opening start of the game in particular.
Yeah, I thought we started well in the first half and then obviously second half is a little bit, you know, Bowers are going to come out and have a go and they've got good players so they create good chances and probably rode our luck at times a little bit.

Chapter 2: What were the highlights of the Dublin derby match?
Michael, I thought was brilliant for us to have in terms of up against Todd and Hickey, he was coming, setting balls out and then we were able to go.
the other side really quickly and I found myself in a lot of space as you say trying to run forward and give us that energy and I think probably the penalty I probably should do better I probably should get the shot off a little bit earlier in my opinion probably lacking that little bit of sharpness just for whatever reason I think I'll get stronger as the season goes on but yeah I'd be disappointed that I didn't actually get the shot off but thankfully we got the penalty and then second half probably another one that I should have got probably should have hit it on my left foot to be honest but kind of got stuck on my feet and I ended up chopping back onto my right but yeah got in some good positions tonight
Just on the penalty, there was a little bit of unsureness what happened. You were the closest lot. Was there a bit of contact as you were about to strike or were you probably in the process of striking really?
Yeah, to be fair, I think the penalty I get and then the penalty I give away are probably similar enough in terms of I go to pull my right foot back, Dawson puts his foot in and then I end up kicking his leg, similar with the one depending on what I give away, I'm throwing it over my shoulder, go to kick it. And I think Colin Whelan probably just puts his leg out there to be kicked.
So they're similar enough. But yeah, thankfully, thankfully we got the first one and the second one's the one I want to forget about.
Football emotions, isn't that what we meant?
Yeah, exactly, yeah.
Yeah, because like...

Chapter 3: How did Shamrock Rovers achieve nine points in three derbies?
They knocked on the door a good bit in the end from a personal point of view. Yeah, I was nervous. You know where this is going, don't you?
When you're the one who gives away that penalty and lets them back into the game, I am obviously thinking, Jesus, I hope they don't get another one. Thankfully, we had experience enough to end it and Green who came on to keep a 2-1.
Your own form then as well, obviously it gets highlighted tonight given that you form a club and everything that goes with that and big vocal support. But aside from that, you seem to be in a really good place. I know you spoke there about wanting to sharpen up a little bit more on the finer details, but by and large you must be pleased with how you're performing.
Yeah, I don't think I can be too disappointed in terms of getting my confidence back and finding myself in a decent place if I look at myself. Maybe 18 months ago where I was at with Bowers, I just wasn't in a good place. I wasn't confident. I was obviously playing in a struggling team, which doesn't help when we had a poor season that year. But it was tough individually.
I wasn't confident in terms of my fitness and stuff. I'd obviously missed a lot of football when I went away and didn't get a serious run of games. I was in and out of Bowers. To be honest, I've made no bones about where I wasn't good enough when I came back to Bowers. I probably didn't.
find myself in the form that I needed to and as I say I wasn't confident enough but thankfully the gaffer brought me here and taught in seeing he could get the best out of me again and I feel like yeah I'm in a decent place as I said I think I can get a little bit sharper in the final bit but in terms of fitness and the energy I'm bringing and the position I think I'm doing okay.
Yeah, because that is like, everyone talks about the big move, but there's a lot that goes on on the personal note as well, away from football, isn't there?
Yeah, no, of course. When I went away, obviously, I got a lot of injuries and people kind of forget that. If you don't play games for two and a half years, you obviously lack fitness, you lack sharpness, you lack that.

Chapter 4: What was Danny Grant's perspective on the team's recent form?
You don't back yourself in the ability and how you're feeling. So then when I did get back playing at Bowers, I... I just didn't come back to where I was before I went. And that's football. It doesn't make you a bad player, I suppose, just for having a bad season or two. So it is what it is. I probably needed the fresh start.
I think it's obviously helped me get back to a place where I feel like I'm playing decent football again.
Flying on both flanks as well, you switch over to the right there for this period in the year.
Yeah, I think I can play on both sides. I've probably played more on the right. Here, obviously with Adam Brennan getting injured, I've went over to the left. Jake's come in. Jake's been brilliant as well. So much competition. You've got Melissa Asamoah as well. So many different characters. We can play inverted.
Chapter 5: What were the key moments in the first half of the match?
We can play on our own side. There's lots of competition for places, but I feel comfortable enough playing left or right and I'm enjoying my football again. Tonight they'll help as well, don't they? Yeah, of course.
Congratulations. Thanks, Eddie. Thank you. Steven, I suppose first things first, a great win for your side tonight. Packed at Dallas Stadium and the supporters go home happy.
Yeah, it's important our supporters enjoy this, the club enjoy it. You know, Dublin derbies are hard fought and when you get three points, it's really important that they enjoy it. Yeah, I'm sure they will. We enjoy it, obviously, but it's really important they enjoy it as well. Started the game ever so well? Yeah, we did. First half, I thought there was periods where we were really, really good.
Second half, we had to show a different side to us. But first half, I thought there was periods that we were really good.
And in their periods as well, it was a lot of the young players really standing tall in the midst of a big battle.

Chapter 6: What happened during the penalty incident in the game?
Yeah, look, the average age of our team tonight is really, really young. And playing in games like that and winning games like that and understanding what it takes to play in them games will only help them when we're in Europe and them games come around again. It will only help them. They will only learn and develop from that. So that's really important for us.
You spoke about the second half, but was it a real time to roll up your sleeves and stand up tall? We did, but that's the season, that's the league. It throws up different challenges to you. It's not all going to be nice and pretty. Sometimes you've got to run and you've got to fight. Second half, we did that really well. The moments went for us and we obviously won the game.
It's so pleasing to see it out there in style. The celebrations were something else at the end there. Yeah, it's important. Like I said, fans have seen three Dublin derbies in the last 10 days, whatever it is, and we've won three. So it's nice that when you win them three games that you celebrate the fans because they're incredible for us. So yeah, nice evening for us.
On that run of form, you're really starting to rack up the wins, get on that momentum, get the swagger on your side.
We are. We're not there yet. We know that you could see tonight there was periods that was really good and then those periods that we came off of. And when we're at our best, we sustain that for longer periods. And that'll come. We know that'll come as the season goes. But right now, like you said, we're in a really good position and we still have a bit of form to find.
Just to highlight a couple of players' performances, Graeme Barker again. Of course, I saw a jersey before the game, 100.
That number can keep going, can't it really? It can, I don't see why Graham shouldn't be aiming for 150 I think by the time he's all said and done here which is a few years away yeah he's got a lot of light left in them legs and he doesn't rely on pace or power so there's a bit left in him and I think he can aim for 150.
On the opposite end of the spectrum then as well, the likes of Victor and John in midfield, they really caught the eye out there.
Yeah, Victor, John, Michael, young Corey, Adam comes on, Naj comes on. It's a really, really young team. And like I said, they will only get better from that to learn them in them environments and some really big performances from them. Victor at times was unplayable. John O'Sullivan to replace Mahilly and come in and do that.
