Hello and welcome to the latest episode of the Koi Gig Podcast. Kathy McNamy here with you as always to look back on everything that happened over the weekend in the world of women's football and joining me to look back on those games with some very interesting results is Karen Duggan and Scarlett Heron. How are things guys?
Things are good. We're definitely up and running now. Um allowed to look at the league table, I think, even after two games and make some insights into it. So look forward.
I look forward to some bold predictions. Um, Scarlett, how are you things at you?
How is life over in Scotland? Really enjoyed the weekend. Um I was just saying there were some great games on and it's great the covers that Scarlet and as well. I think it's it's so easy to access the games and I think the timings as well are a lot better maybe so far than they were last season. So actually got to see a good few games this weekend, so I was very pleased with that.
Goods. Did which was your cream of the crop? Which one did you enjoy the most?
I I really enjoyed the game on Saturday, um, the London City and West Ham game. Um I think just the shock behind it and yeah, I think we'll speak about it, but I I did really enjoy the game and just how West Ham set up against them.
Yeah. Well we might as well start with that one because I think it was a an interesting result that Maybe people wouldn't exactly have expected going into that game, but again we do see London City Lionesses as this team that's in a bit of transition and The big question has been how well is this team going to gel together? So maybe, Scarlett, do you want to talk a bit through about how West Ham set up to go against the big spenders?
Yeah, well I think I was really impressed with how they were set up. Um I really I really like watching their high press. I think a lot of teams might sit off London City if you're down maybe the lower half of the table because they will want to play. We've seen that number of times even throughout last year that they'll want to play, but as well when they do, they cough up a not l awful lot of chances through playing out through the back and you know, you do see a few mistakes for them particularly last season. So I think West Ham would have seen that. and would have tried to sort of push that on on their agenda for the weekend and Yeah, I mean I think London City would be kicking themselves as two very similar goals, you know, caught in behind and it's just it's the pace in behind from Asse and Kelly Gago, um, who obviously has got her goal now.
She's up and running. So um yeah, I think really purperly in possession for the first goal from the Donk, just plays a square pass across Ron in in the in the final third and is intercepted. It's just how quick West Ham can get up the pitch um and yeah, really take advantage of what isn't a slow back line, but it's just the pace of West Ham's front line that Um yeah, it's just so so effective for them. So I think the way that West Ham were playing to try play on that sort of last fender and to try to slip them balls through, just playing direct is so so effective sometimes and usually can be really, really good against these teams who like to play around and think and cut caught off guard at times.
Mm.
Karen, with that game and considering other results around the league, were maybe we're a bit quick to judge how this London City Alliance's team are actually going to do this season?
A little bit. Um, but there were there were shades of what we saw last season as well in terms of them wanting to play the nice brand of football and leaving themselves exposed, like you say.
