As I say, we were in Leinster last week. So we're absolutely delighted to be here. Thank you so much for coming out. But let's get two of our more familiar faces here on Off the Ball up first of all. The first man will bring him up on his own is the one and only Brian O'Triscoll.
How we all doing? Which one am I in? You can hop on that one there. Um Brian, we were thinking about your games against Connucts and your games in Galway and coming down here to play for Leinster. We'd totally forgotten about the fact that Galway is actually a really important place for you in terms of your international career. Your first ever Ireland camp under Warren Gatlands.
1998. Yeah, it was I was 19 years of age, and I remember coming into cam. I cannot tell you how much I was shitting myself. Um, you um yeah, it's a dream, and like because my progress was very different. I wasn't didn't excel anyway really in school, not the way Gordon Darcy did, and you know, I hadn't played for And then all of a sudden I was kind of catapulted into a into a national squad kind of out of nowhere. Um so I I remember coming up and and the thing is, and it it probably had an impact on me, you know, after that when I became a senior player and and making sure that you know new players who come into the squad feel welcome. But I remember going for the first meal and um And not knowing where to sit.
And like you're like, do I sit my own on my own table? Or and I remember Kevin Mags, who who subsequently became a center partner for me for you know 35 or 40 tests, was the first person to beckon me over and and say, come on over and sit down with us. And and so it started there. But um yeah, it was it's funny, you know, when when you find yourself in that environment, you You think you're a million miles away and then all of a sudden you realise, gosh, m maybe I'm not. And and my timing was really great coming on into the international setup because let's be honest, Ireland were shite in the nineties.
