First up today, Irish rugby legend Fergus Slattery has died at the age of 77, his club Blackrock College announced this morning. The former flanker earned 61 caps for Ireland, winning the Five Nations Championship in 1974, as well as triple crowns in 82 and 85.
He went on three tours with the British and Irish Lions and was part of series wins in 71, 74 and 79. He was also a key part in the Barbarians' most famous try against the All Blacks back in 1973.

As Slattery spoke to Nathan Murphy on Off the Ball ahead of the Lions Tour of 2017 and about his memories of being a tourist back in the early 1970s, in particular he recalls how different tours were back then compared to the more recent expeditions such as their trip to Australia last summer.
No, we were gone for three and three and a half months, and that's the reason why I stopped playing for the Lions, because I couldn't afford... You've got a job, you've got to work, you've got to get yourself going in this world. So I was very happy that I'd been fortunate to be on two winning Lions tours. So the challenge for all these guys is huge, and I think... The 10-match tour is semi-insane because they're playing, with the exception of the first game, the next nine were all sides that potentially, in theory, could beat the Lions. And to be under that sort of pressure twice a week, every week, bar the last week, where they've got the little gap, I think that's a mistake. And I just don't think it's the right thing for the Lions to be doing.

We played our first two games in Australia in 71. We lost our first game, which was thankfully against Queensland and not in New Zealand. But that was not a great start.
