First up today, Ireland's summer test window ended in disappointing fashion on Saturday with a 40 points to 21 defeat to New Zealand at Eden Park. I think they'd definitely improve on some of the errors, but they're not at the level of New Zealand, South Africa and France. They're just more depth, more options, more pace, more athleticism in a sense of that X factor, game breakers and stuff like that. Tommy O'Brien is a loss. Balikun coming back into the team, it makes a huge difference in a sense of that speed.
He probably didn't get the ball enough. But if you had Tommy O'Brien on the other wing, I think it gives you a real focal point when you go to width that you have pace. If you can stay in games and you have players that can pop up and do something special, and O'Brien and Balakum did that, obviously James Lowe is gone, Mack Hansen will come back into the mix. But yeah, we have problems and the depth chart isn't the same as some of the others. But look, I think it's admirable. I think they've played 19 tests since the start of the Six Nations last year in 2025. They've won 14, lost five. The five they've lost is to France twice.
