Football on Off the Ball. He's got a way with his words. Look, he's a good coach, but he's a really, really nice man as well. And I think, for me at least, that that can sometimes be even more important. Join in the obsession. Subscribe now at offtheball.com forward slash join.
Off the Balls, Rugby Daily. With Bank of Ireland, a proud sponsor of Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster Rugby. Never stop competing. You are very welcome along to Friday's Rugby Daily. I'm Cameron Hill. Now coming up, the team news and all you need to know ahead of the URC playoffs this weekend. Breakfast reacts to Sam Prendergast getting the start for Leinster this week with Ciarán Frawley not in the matchday 23 at all. And could Geordie Barrett return to Leinster in the near future? First up today, the Munster team has been named for tomorrow's URC playoff quarterfinal away to the Bulls. The big injury blow is that Jack Crowley is once again unavailable for the weekend. The out half has been suffering with a strange nervous injury in his knee, forcing him to withdraw during the warm-ups of both the Ulster and Lions games at Thoman Park in recent weeks.
Munster have confirmed that Crowley was left at home instead of travelling to Pretoria this week, so JJ Hanrahan is the starting 10 at Loftus-Versfeld tomorrow. Alan Quinlan joined Shane Hannan and Dara Smith-Nocton to preview the weekend's games on off-the-ball breakfast. He reacted to Crowley's latest setback.
Yeah, and he's a big loss. I probably experienced it with a neck injury before, nerve kind of spasms coming and going a little bit and It's probably a common thing for forwards and even more so for front drawers. But never entering in the lower limbs like that. So it's, you know, my thought around that is it could be related to something in his back or some sort of tightness and somewhere else. And that usually is the case when you've got lower injury, lower leg injuries like that. But it's only speculation. But it's obviously something because that's recurred again this week or it did before yesterday. The Lions game, which was, you know, disappointing because it's one of those ones. And look, there's probably an Irish eye on this as well for the summer.
You know, you go on the medical advice, Tara, and that's the frustrating thing for him is he looked, you know, I watched the warm-up against the Lions. He looked like he was flying it. He was kicking a goal, took full participation in the warm-up. So, yeah, it's a frustrating one. He's a loss as well for Munster this weekend.
What team news is important for the URC playoffs this weekend?
They're bereft of injuries. Noah Dugbo as well. You could list out all the other players. There's eight or nine, ten players missing that would be in the 23. But I think Crowley and Casey, and if you go back to that game at the end of March, that's... that Munster scored five tries, were very unlucky not to beat the Bulls.
Why is Sam Prendergast starting for Leinster over Ciaran Frawley?
Crowley and Casey were both outstanding in that game and really important to the way Munster played. So, yeah, it's frustrating that he's out, but there's so many other players. There's not Tyburn, Klein, Jaeger, Michael Milne, Tom Farrell, Calvin Nash. Edwin Adogbo, the list goes on, particularly when you're going to South Africa as well.
Alex Nankovell returns from injury to start at inside centre tomorrow in the only change from their win over the Lions two weeks ago. Finnean Whitterley is also back fit. The second row is part of a 6-2 split on the bench. Leinster have named their team for their last eight clash with the Lions at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow night. James Lowe is back on the wing to make his 100th appearance and possibly his last one for the province amid uncertainty over his future. He could also surpass Shane Horgan as Leinster's all-time top try scorer if he gets over the line tomorrow. There are six changes in total from the Investec Champions Cup final defeat to Bordeaux Beg last weekend.
What injury issues are affecting Munster's lineup for the playoffs?
Jimmy O'Brien's named on the right wing, while Lowe's return means that Rico Ioane shifts to outside centre alongside Jamie Osborne, who's promoted from the bench.
