I felt like Rocky yelling Drago on top of the mountain, and it was great. I had a great time. I'm a little disappointed in Laura Dykin. She arranged it, and she decided to no-show, which was extremely disappointing. Hayes wouldn't do it.
Duffy wouldn't do it. LD pulled the pin on the group hike team-building exercise today.
Yeah. That is disappointing. My assumption would be she's working. She's probably like, I actually can't go do that because we have a big game tonight at the Memorial Cup. But, yeah, I saw that. Very impressive stuff. I'm sure it's authentic, and I'm sure it's 100% legit that you guys made your way all the way up that mountain. That's awesome stuff.
Frankie, obviously, is running the choreography out there. I've noticed everyone having a great time. I saw Regan Subban. Regan's out there. She's got the skates on every game. Cruising around in skates. And Regan's posting pics from the pool. There's beach parties going on. You guys are in the mountains. What a scene out there. Isn't that great, Noodles? So much team bonding out there.

Now, I had some people asking, where were the Sherpas? Like, were they not in a shot? You know, like, were those guys kind of, like, standing to the side? The guys with the oxygen tanks dragging you up the hill? Because that would be hysterical if you got up there with a Sherpa that flew over from Nepal. and had oxygen tanks getting up and down the mountain. But I'm proud of you.
That's an awesome start to the weekend. That's great stuff. And the getting down can be dangerous. Like, I'm sure you guys are movie buffs. Remember the movie Black Sheep Noodles where Chris Farley falls down that mountain? That would be a concern. You start tumbling downward, man. That's an international story. TSN's Jeff O'Neill gets to the bottom in record time by tumbling down the bottom.
Dude, I made a note to myself because it rained a little bit this morning. And I don't know. I separated because everybody was kind of lagging and I wanted to get down this hill. And I'm like, I got to take it easy here because if I go tumbling off this cliff And I end up in some guy's backyard dead. This is going to be like, this is not going to be a good scene.
So I had to watch my footing, dude. Because if there was some kind of viz or drone that had me tumbling down the side of that mountain, dude. it just wouldn't be a good scene.
No, that would be trouble. But it's good to see. Great to hear you guys made it up, made it down. You got the game tonight. Your boy Gavin McKenna was there. Chapter 3: How confident is Gavin McKenna about joining the Maple Leafs?
I don't know what he's thinking. I don't know what the Leafs are thinking. But if John Chyka or somebody from the Leafs flew out to visit him where he lives, don't you think that there's probably a very good chance the Maple Leafs are going to take this guy first overall? And I flat out asked him. I'm like, I can get a sense of stuff pretty easily.
And I just brought up... I mean, it was on live TV. We didn't talk much off camera, but... He seemed like he was down with being a Toronto Maple Leaf, which I think I could have got the sense if it was like, I don't know about this, big market, this and that. I think he would be generally excited to be a Toronto Maple Leaf. And why wouldn't he?
It's a great place to play, regardless of what people think or what people say. So I think it's going to be a great thing if he gets drafted. He's bigger than I thought, too.
How terrified was he?
guys bigger than i thought like he's just he's gonna turn out to be a pretty big dude like he i know he's people talk about his size in his upper body but i think when he fills out is going to be a pretty big dude well how terrified was he when you said to him you wanted to mentor him i don't think that that went over too well when i when i brought up the idea of him moving in with me and me mentoring him
But I thought it was a great idea. You know, like every time a young kid moves to a different market, it's like they have to move in with somebody. And I figure I live 10 minutes from the practice rink, not even. It might be a good fit, Hazy B. Who knows? But Laura Dykin kind of shot it down.
Yeah, she didn't seem overly impressed with that idea. But, yeah, I mean, those reports are out there, right? And I guess you're reporting, you heard maybe from the source, that the Leafs brass has made their way out to the Northwest Territories. You know, like that's not driving down to Sarnia for the afternoon. That's a flight, dude. That's white horse, dude. Yes, that's a hike.
And as they should in terms of putting in their due diligence to find out exactly what you're getting with this guy, if you're going to take McKenna. And, you know, everyone's got a different viewpoint from a scouting perspective. The three of us don't know him personally. We know his game a little bit, but not intimately the way scouts do.
And, you know, depending on who you hear from or who you read, you hear a variety of different possibilities of what his career could look like. But it's pretty much a consensus that his skill, like his ability to break games open, is second to none in this draft. And what is different from what...

Chapter 4: What are the implications of Morgan Rielly's future with the Maple Leafs?
And I do think there's a chance, and this is no slight on Easton Cowan. I think McKenna is going to be a better player than Cowan. I just do. And I know Cowan was great in junior. I've watched Cowan. I saw him play live the other day in the minors and all of that. I think he's going to be a really good player. I think McKenna has a chance to be another level.
So I want to afford him the opportunity, Brian, to settle in. And if he gets a look with Matthews, great. If he's on a second line because Nise is there, so be it. But I think top six minutes are in his future very soon.
Yeah, that's the question, right? And again, it's not going to be right away. It doesn't have to be right away. If it's not an unbelievable rookie season, we've seen countless examples of that. The Joe Thorntons, there's a lot of guys who just kind of struggled their first year. I'm not predicting that, but it wasn't perfect, and eventually they got there.
You're hoping that if you take him, he's a leaf for 10, 12, 15 years and grows into a great player. But I also think maybe what it becomes, the focus obviously is on Matthews. Who's going to replace Marner from a couple years ago? Who's going to put him in a position to get back to chasing Rockets? I think it could be McKenna in a couple of years, maybe by the end of next year.
But what he could do early in his career is just keep John Tavares afloat and get some cookies for John. You know, like put him with John. I could see him living with Tavares. I don't want to put that on the Tavares family's, you know, plate necessarily right off the bat. But I think Nyes started, you know, his tenure in Toronto living with Tavares. And...
Maybe if they can find a second-line center, you move John down, all of a sudden you can have something kind of cooking there in terms of you know exactly what you're getting out of John Tavares and exactly how he's going to play.
And if someone else can do a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of playmaking and stuff like that and put him in a spot to score, that could be very beneficial early into McKenna's career.

Still technically playing, one obvious thing. He's actually in the room and playing right now, which is different. You've got the alumni jacket. He doesn't have it yet. I think pretty routine. I don't think there'll be too many surprises. I would guess that probably 24 of the 26 is really solidified. And then the options are, do you risk a number of injured players? We know the guys that are not 100% fit that are definitely going to be in.
But I think when you start to get up to seven, eight, nine players that are huge doubts through injury, then you start to worry. And if the worst happens, then you are pretty decimated and you don't have the selection that you would need.
through a tournament like this with the games coming in reasonably quick succession so I think there's a couple of guys that will be a little bit nervous I'm thinking someone like Jacob Schaffelberg who is probably on the border and maybe missing out because of his injury and because of the fact that left midfield position is particularly stacked and Jesse Masters has a number of options there that
he might just miss out. And then someone like Zorhan Basong or Ralph Preso, who can play and add some cover in the back line, might just sneak in as kind of 25, 26 players on the roster.
Well, obviously we're aware of the biggest injury of them all being Alphonso Davies, and he will be a part of the squad. But how do you anticipate Jesse Marsh to... possibly build out his roster with the fact that it's unknown exactly how much Davies can play and if he'll be able to play at all. How does that affect what Marsh might do tonight?
Yeah, I think it means he needs to have cover on that left side, you know, especially in that full-back position where his understudy, he's been his understudy in the last year and a bit with the Canadian Men's National Team, is Richie Larea. He's also got his injury problems and he's a little bit more behind than I expected him to be, Brian. He's still struggling a bit to train fully. So then...

But I think we have to dream. It's the whole point of being here at this stage. It's the aspirational value, home World Cup games, and a group of guys that have been slowly building up to this crescendo, this point in their careers where... let's face it, not a lot's going to get better for these guys than playing in the Red of Canada, in Toronto or in Vancouver in the home World Cup.
It's the pinnacle. So they need to be at their best and they've got to go out there and play at their maximum. If they do that, I've no doubt they get out of the group.
Stevie, you've been around the world and experienced different atmospheres and hostile environments. Some of our conversations in the green room down there at TSN, you've talked about different places, how crazy it is. What is your expectations of just the atmosphere and the vibe in Canadian cities like Vancouver and Toronto?
I've got to say I'm a little apprehensive about the atmosphere in the stadiums especially the first game in Toronto the tickets were too expensive in my opinion it's took away a bit of the sort of magic of the World Cup I would say some of these ticket prices I'm not so sure that genuine fans that normal football watching people are going to be at these games I think it's priced a lot of families out of the market a lot of kids
from going to these games I think it's only for a select few so I'm a bit worried what that does to the atmosphere usually when a World Cup comes around it is special and it is amazing but I don't think FIFA have got this one right I think that they should have been more cognizant of the fact that prices in the past have been reasonable I know they're talking about dynamic market and a North American market and
None of that matters to me. This is the FIFA World Cup. It's a global competition and it should be capped at a certain level so everybody can experience it. We'll see what it's like, but ultimately we need that crowd to be pro-Canadian. We need everyone to be absolutely behind the team and that extra man, that support for the crowd,
is going to be vital to Canada's success because there's going to be moments of adversity. There's going to be moments when they're doing well and they have momentum and the crowd adding that extra bit of value, as we all know playing sport, just gives you that little push over the line and can really be a difference maker.
Stevie, this is what I really want to know. If you were still playing and the World Cup was a few days away and you wanted to go out to your local pub and kind of blow some steam off but not go crazy, what do you think your order would look like when the receipt was printed out?
You wanted to have a good time and get familiarized with people, but you still had to be mindful of the competition starting. What kind of damage do you think you would do, Stevie? Tell us.
