What are the highlights of the British GP Driver Ratings?

Matt Gallagher 0:05
Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 Podcast with Matt and Tommy. Driver ratings, sprint driver ratings. It is going to get spicy. A lot to cover. Numbers can vary when it comes to a thick and fast, full of action weekend like we've just seen at Silverstone. We, of course, Tommy, left the racetrack thinking we knew what had happened. Oh, no, we didn't. Hopefully we now know what happened. How are you feeling ahead of this big driver ratings of the season?
Well, I wouldn't, but in an alternate universe where we did driver ratings after going to a Grand Prix would be the most chaotic and wrong. People say our driver rates are wrong anyway. Imagine how insane it would be because, yeah, the amount you... Don't get to absorb, but it's all absorbed now, and we've looked at every nugget of information over the next few days since the race, of course.
Matt Gallagher 1:04
Just a couple of sponges. We have absorbed it all. We've absorbed everything. And we're ready to share it with you. I don't know if that's very strange, but anyway, we are here. Let's get into it right away and start with Sergio Perez. Sprint qualified 19th, finished the sprint in 22nd, started the main race in 20th, finished the main race in 14th. My grade for Sergio Perez is a 6 out of 10. I think he had a very good Grand Prix. Cadillac, as much as they did finish, had, unsurprisingly, some reliability issues, which maybe made Valtteri look slightly better in qualifying than he was. We were, you know, heralding Valtteri for a comeback in qualifying, but Perez was plagued with a few issues that he had to sort out.
Matt Gallagher 1:58
But the reason I've gone for a six and not higher, you know, 14th in the main race is pretty good. Close actually, Tommy, to taking the Bottas position in the championship, isn't it? P13 for Valtteri.
It is P13.
Matt Gallagher 2:09
It is, yes. So not far away at all. But he did yeet Alonso in the sprint, which could have been easily avoided. And yeah, so I've gone for a six. So to give a little bit of a nod to the fact Perez put in a reasonable performance in a car that is very hard to judge.
I've also gone for a six for Sergio Perez. Probably would have been higher, maybe, without the sprint collision, of course, with Alonso. But a good result in the end for Perez, even though it was probably more down to, obviously, the retirements, because still he only finished ahead of the Aston Martins and his teammate, and, of course, Antonelli. Ten out of ten. Yeah, he beat a Mercedes, the class of the field, ten for Perez.
Matt Gallagher 2:54
Oh, Tommy's losing his voice already. Fantastic. Only one out of the 22 drivers down. The fans gave Perez a six out of 10 as well. Valtteri Bottas, sprint qualified in 20th, finished the main sprint, the main sprint, just the sprint in 19th, started the main race in 18th and finished the main race in 16th.
I've gone for a five for Valtteri Bottas. He's closer to Perez, but yeah, he had a good qualifying, but in the main race was a long way off, obviously finished behind him in the end, thanks to the safety car. and how they bunched everyone up if he'd he was actually 0.157 away from beating a mercedes what might have been for bottas and you know maybe it would have been a 10 out of 10 then if he'd have just accelerated a little quicker to the line uh as the safety car came in and he might have got antonelli uh what what a performance that would have been but no it's a five for bottas wow gosh goodness gracious me it's dr sarcasm over there that's usually me uh we love to see it
Matt Gallagher 3:58
Valtteri Bottas is getting a 5 out of 10 from me. Yeah, the main race was poor from a pace perspective. He was 33 seconds or maybe even slightly more behind Perez before the safety car came out and spared his blushes as they, of course, go over the line very close together. Qualifying, as I mentioned with Perez, I think made him look slightly better than perhaps He would have been on pure pace, but still, it was a decent qualifying. I'm not going to downgrade him for that, but the main race was just, yeah, it was poor in comparison to his teammates.
