Hello everybody and welcome back to the P1 Podcast with Matt and Tommy. Driver ratings for one final time for five weeks, driver ratings. And then another three weeks off after Miami. No, we're not going to talk about it, I just did. But we are here to analyse what went on in a lovely, glorious one-stop race where some drivers got screwed over and some drivers didn't. How are we feeling, Tommy? Yeah. I'm looking forward to it as always. These ones, yeah, a more normal race from a sprint weekend, but still a lot to dive into and probably some interesting opinions and yeah, looking forward to diving into it. I'm personally excited to see how we rated Alex Albon's six stop race. Right, let's get into the grades and begin with Sergio Perez, who qualified 19th and finished 17th.
I've gone for a 7 out of 10 for Sergio Perez, which is quite a whopping grade for a 17th position. However, at the end of the day, you can only compare him to his teammate and probably the Aston Martins. And he put 30 seconds on Alonso and 45 seconds on Bottas. So I think it's a very, very strong drive indeed. Good qualifying as well. And the two Cadillac teammates have been very, very close all year. But on this one, Perez was very quick. I'm enjoying all year as if we've had like half a season. all three races that we've had three before this including a sprint I guess but and qualifying and everything else but yeah Perez drove a great race but could not be rewarded for any more than 17th for his great drive
I have given Sergio Perez a 7 out of 10 as well. Don't sound so surprised when you said 7 out of 10, Tommy, because I'm in complete agreement with you. Because he had a very strong weekend, qualified well, even though on paper 19th, if you have no idea about Formula 1 and you just look at a piece of paper, you wouldn't expect that to be of a higher grade. But I think in terms of what he did in that Cadillac was pretty good, pretty strong. And as I echo your point, analysis against Bottas I think he was definitely the better Cadillac driver this weekend and I think that grade should reflect it the fans gave Perez a 6 out of 10 Valtteri Bottas qualified 20th finished 19th My grade for Valtteri Bottas is going to be a whopping 5 out of 10.
Very underwhelming for Valtteri Bottas this weekend. As underwhelming as a Cadillac drive can be, I think Perez, as I mentioned, outshone him. Bottas, I mean, he was on a different strategy, which was not the correct strategy. He was the only one that started on the hard tyres, wanted to try something different. And yeah, he was just not really anywhere. So I'm going to give him a 5 out of 10. I've gone for a 4 out of 10 for Bottas, which I think is fair considering how far he was behind. He was leading the race at one point, what are you talking about? Yeah, when he unlapped himself. It didn't work for him, of course, on the different strategy at the start, but then there was a safety car to kind of neutralise things, but then still fell back quite a large amount, so...
yeah uh four out of ten i think reflects it even though you know it's hard to grade these drivers when there's only one person they're up against but that far off your teammate we've given worse grades before so Okay, Tommy really diving into that. I mean, the Bottas slander, no surprise Tommy's jumping straight over that one. I mean, it's 45 seconds off your teammate. If it was Perez, you'd be giving him a three, so, you know. Hey, that is not true, because I have very much an open mind when it comes to Cadillac and the problems they consistently have. So I think at this stage of the season, and I've said this many, many times, I think this driver ratings is the most difficult thing to do, because...
It is not like for like hardly at all throughout any of the weekends we've seen so far because everyone has issues at some point.
