Who is Rob St. Helen and why is he joining Intention Is Everything?
Welcome to another episode of Intention is Everything. I am, as always, always have been, always will be, well, not always have been, but I am Karen Frazier right now, and I think that I will continue to be for the foreseeable future. With me, as always, is my good friend and co-host. Jim just walked out of the bathroom and gave me a what the heck look. With me, as always, is my good friend and co-host, Cheryl Knight Wilson. Hey, Cheryl. Hey, Karen. I think
Fraser's a great last name.
I think so, too. My maiden name is Riseland, and it would have been a little more distinctive for the books. But, you know, I went with Frasier. It works. Well, when I wrote the first book, I never thought that I would write more. And now look at you. What, 50? 100? Where are you? Not that. I don't know. People ask me that all the time. And honestly, I don't know. I think I have, under the name Karen Frasier, I think I probably have maybe 25 or so. Yeah. You've been
writing like
crazy, huh? Well, you know, it's a living, huh? Yeah. So you are off on an exciting adventure, I hear.
Yes, yes. We are going to do some paranormal investigation, and we're going to try to do it safely, wearing our masks and taking our hand sanitizer. There will only be six of us there, and we will be going to Bobby Mackey's Music World.
Cool.
We are going to Waverly Hills Sanatorium and Brushy Mountain Prison. Cool. I still have my Bobby Mackie sweatshirt that you gave me. Woo! We went to Bobby Mackie's. Oh, my gosh. It's been three or four years now, and it was interesting. I'm excited to go back.
Very cool. All right. Well, I'm excited about our guest. He is a good friend of mine and a good friend of the show. Rob has been with Paranormal Underground listening to us since, God damn. the beginning practically. Every Thursday night when we used to do the live show, Rob would always be there. And so I am really excited to announce my, or to introduce my good friend. I'm still having the same brain farty stuff I was having last time apparently. And I haven't even been drinking or eating ice cream. I ate a keto pumpkin cookie and apparently that was all I needed to do. Anyway, so I'm really happy to introduce my good friend, Rob St. Helen. Rob, thank you for joining us. Thank you. It's nice to be here. Yeah, so Rob, we've been friends for, geez, like what, 10, 11 years now probably?
Didn't we meet like
2009, I think, is when we met? Yeah, we met up at Wellington. That was the first time I met Rob who came up to Wellington. And what I realized about Rob immediately is that Rob is somebody who gets it. And he had the same kind of connection to Wellington, which was a subject of my very first book. I've
got chills already from you just already.
He had the same connection to Wellington that I... Okay. Nope. Anyway, he had the same kind of connection to Wellington that I did. And we've just grown to be really good friends since then. And we can certainly talk about some of that, because Rob did a lot of paranormal investigation. He used to work at the Haunted Heathman Hotel in Portland, and then he worked at the Haunted Old Wheeler Hotel in Wheeler, Oregon, until he actually became very ill, which is why he's, I think, is that why we're here to talk, Rob?
I believe so.
Okay. Because I know. So if we ask you anything that makes you uncomfortable, please just tell us and we'll skip the subject. I
am an open
book. So was five, six years ago now, maybe?
2014. 2014.
So in 2014, I got a call from my friend, Jenny Patrick, who said Rob is in the hospital. And he has lost 70,
how much? 75% of my blood.
He lost 75% of his blood and did it more than once. Yes. And I'll kind of let you tell the story. But what I know is that what followed was a Rob who was not the Rob that I knew, which is understandable. And so I think what we want to talk about is what you've been through and how you've managed to come back from that and live with the specter of this illness over your head. So why don't you start?
Well, as Karen mentioned, I was working at the old Wheeler Hotel in Wheeler, Oregon, and it was a Monday night.
